Susan Sarandon: Being vulnerable takes power

Susan Sarandon "wants to constantly renew everything".

About the only man in her life she legally married, she says: "Chris Sarandon was a graduate student. He already had a job, so I went where he went. Crazy. What was I thinking?"

JvP: What about you gentle reader? Did you follow someone, whose path are you on?

60 Years of Globetrotting - 90+ Looking Back

Nonagenarian Posts Photographs of her Travels

(translation to follow at undetermined date)

I opened the link to this post and thought: "Are you talking to me?" Today, January 1, 2012 I woke up and thought, okay, this is it. I'm going to read through my manuscript for Forgiveness as though I'm working on an assignment. I'm going to apply myself to this project the way I have applied myself to reviews of other writers' books, p/reviews of shows and exhibitions.

I'm going to approach my own number one project as just that, my number one project of the New Year.

Can Cancer Ever Be Ignored?

THE ARTICLE IS ABOUT PROSTATE CANCER

The title suggests cancer is cancer. A doctor may argue there are hundreds of kinds of cancer and each occurence follows its own track, not all are lethal, not all need to be treated, and not all people need to know...

Keeping Sex Alive in Long-Term Relationships

The title of this book is True Secrets of Lesbian Desire. Truth is, those secrets are any woman's, and you don't have to be gay (or a woman) to appreciate Stendhal's thoughts on the subject; it's of  value for hetro couples as well. The author and I both have a background in theater arts in Europe, and we're pen pals on SheWrites.com, a women writers' platform. That's how I discovered she's a wise woman. And her wisdom ought to be shared across the board.

After posting a link to the French book on women's secrets to pleasure, I remembered this small book, and think it deserves attention outside the niche suggested by the title. The subtitle "Keepting Sex Alive in Long-Term Relationships" is right on, although I would say the word "intimacy" could be easily substituted for sex.

Donna Davidge

These are suggestions that can help you with the symptoms of menopause using yoga.

Wonderful notion expressed by Donna Davidge: "Experience old age of youth in your 40s, and experience the youth of old age in your 50s."

This lady knows what she's talking about, the changes in aging bodies, and how to carefully work with what's a given and help you stretch and feel better. There's even a cooling yoga position :-)

Questioning Prostate Cancer Tests

This article in The New York Times is a follow-up on an earlier publication in the paper's Magazine of October 5, 2011.

While its title was "Can Cancer Ever Be Ignored?" the accompanying illustration's text "DO I HAVE CANCER" jumped off the page. I'll scoopit! as well, so you'll see both pieces side-by-side.

One critic, Skip Lockwood, head of Zero a prostate-cancer patient advocacy group, remarked that the chief medical and scientific officer of the American Cancer Society, Otis Webb Brawley is more concerned about saving men's sex lives than about saving the men themselves.

So? or Eh? What do you think?

The discussion reminds me teh different possibilities of breast cancer screening, and the choice of treatment/ no treatment at different phases in a person's lifetime.

When IS medicine worse than the disease?

N.Y.T.'s editorial of October 11:

"The warning that the P.S.A. test may cause men more harm than good is information that can guide patients and doctors to make better decisions."

Is Marriage Good for Your Health?

SINGLE AND HAPPY IS MORE BETTER THAN MARRIED AND STRESSED OUT, AND DOWN
At times one can't help but wonder about the conclusions of research. "Open Doors" as the Dutch say, common sense doesn't count (numbers) though, statistics do.
Excerpt from article: "Several new studies, for instance, show that the marriage advantage doesn’t extend to those in troubled relationships, which can leave a person far less healthy than if he or she had never married at all.
One recent study suggests that a stressful marriage can be as bad for the heart as a regular smoking habit.
And despite years of research suggesting that single people have poorer health than those who marry, a major study released last year concluded that single people who have never married have better health than those who married and then divorced."

BREAKING THE CODE TO YOUR WOMAN'S PLEASURE.

This looks like a good title for the American market. But all kidding aside, the Dutch press is raving about this book and I am very curious indeed which title the U.S. and U.K. publishers are going to give to the translation of Elisa Brune and sexuologist Yves Ferroul book on the Secret Pleasure of Women.
