Stingray City on Grand Cayman

Stingray City on Grand Cayman | Caribbean Island Travel | Scoop.it
As I discovered last month on my trip to Cayman Islands, Stingray City is literally a city of stingrays along a series of sandbars just off the coast of Grand Cayman.

As the story goes, decades ago, fishing boats would stop in the shallow waters to clean the fish they had caught for the day. What was the inedible, disposable parts for fishers, was dinner for the abundance of stingrays that would gather here. Over the years they’ve continued to congregate, even while it’s become the most popular thing to do on Grand Cayman.

A Corner of Wales in the Caribbean

A Corner of Wales in the Caribbean | Caribbean Island Travel | Scoop.it
Today, we are all so connected. So much so that as the ferry sped across the sparkling, foaming blue, I managed to snap this shot and tweet it to the world. The sun shone so brightly I couldn’t see the screen. But I could see the view in real life (IRL) and that was what mattered.

Saba: 10 Reasons to Go

Saba: 10 Reasons to Go | Caribbean Island Travel | Scoop.it
Affectionately known as the Unspoiled Queen, the tiny island of Saba is unlike any other in the Caribbean.

In fact, if you didn’t know better, you might think you were somewhere off the coast of California on one of the Channel Islands. On this smallest of the Dutch Windwards, nature reigns and eco-tourism is the big draw. The hiking is superb, big views are everywhere and the surrounding waters are pristine and protected.

You won’t find any casinos, mega-all-inclusive resorts or a Margaritaville on this spoonful of paradise, just small cottage-style resorts, a close-knit community and a strong bond with nature.

One Caribbean Island, 11 Rum Distilleries

One Caribbean Island, 11 Rum Distilleries | Caribbean Island Travel | Scoop.it
It’s the rum capital of the Caribbean — at least if you go by the number of distilleries.

The French Caribbean island of Martinique has a whopping 11 distilleries, with even more rum brands, each producing the department’s signature rhum agricole, made out of fresh sugar cane juice, not molasses like its Spanish and English-speaking neighbours in the region. And exploring this route is one of the coolest experiences in the Caribbean.
