Employee Engagement Survey: Engaging Employees for Happier Companies

Employee Engagement Survey: Engaging Employees for Happier Companies | Innovate U | Scoop.it

The role of co-workers in employee happiness continues to grow along with the need for increased transparency. Investors and efficient capital markets demand transparency and employees want the same from their leaders. An important part of transparency, is the communication and understanding of the company’s vision, mission, and values.

As the workplace becomes increasingly flat and decentralised, this puts a premium on stronger employee-to-employee relationships. HR and team leaders must prioritise recruiting talent that is collaborative and team-oriented.

The Power of Quiet Connectors - Networking Introverts & Extroverts

The Power of Quiet Connectors - Networking Introverts & Extroverts | Innovate U | Scoop.it

"When we ask our users to name the best connectors they know, again and again, they introduce us to people who are private, modest and low key."

Excerpts:

“I‘ve never liked the word ‘networking’”, says Susan Cain, a kind of “Queen of Quiet”, famous for her bestselling book, Quiet, about the power of introverts. “It suggests there’s only one way to form social connections.”

Uncomfortable with a more-is-better approach, Susan’s strategy is instead to “go through the world looking for kindred spirits.” This means, she says, that you want to help. “Connecting is effortless.”

It’s not only effortless, but effective.

Adam Grant — the bestselling author of Give and Take, and an incredibly generous, quiet connector — introduced me to Susan, as the “best connector I know”.

There are all types of ways to connect, so this is good food for thought to bolster the underserved dominant style introvert crowd. It isn't about being the extrovert, necessarily, to make the connection.

In Jungian theory, everyone has both an extrovert and introvert side to their energy.  One of the mental processes (perception and judgment) is dominant and is either introverted or extroverted.

The affect of the dominant function, or impact in social situations, does not mean a quiet connection or a noisy one or split, won't occur.  Sometimes opposites attract.    ~  D

How Are People Really Using LinkedIn?

How Are People Really Using LinkedIn? | Innovate U | Scoop.it

Professional networking service LinkedIn blasted through the 100-million-user mark in March, making it even more powerful for finding a job, keeping up with colleagues and promoting your resume.

LinkedIn is growing so quickly, it's adding a new member each second. As the size of its network grows, LinkedIn is steadily getting more useful. But how are people really using the fast-growing service? Researchers at Lab 42 asked 500 LinkedIn users that question and many more, and came up with a variety of answers in this infographic.

Among the fun facts they uncovered: We found it interesting the way top level executives use the service in vastly different ways from entry-level workers. Let us know in the comments how you like to use LinkedIn, or if you don't use the service, why not?...

9 Essential Qualities Of Highly Promotable Employees

9 Essential Qualities Of Highly Promotable Employees | Innovate U | Scoop.it
Here are some of the attitudes and perspectives that inform the actions of incredibly successful people

The key to advancing — whether professionally or personally — is not based solely on what you should do (although what you do is certainly important). The key to advancing is based on what you should be.

Attitude informs action. Attitude informs behavior.

__________________________

The best employees develop an idea, create a strategy, set up a basic operational plan… and  make incredible things happen based on what works in practice, not in theory.

__________________________

Excerpts:

1. Are humble, not arrogant.

Humble people are always learning [and] ask questions. Humble people ask for help.

2. Are servants, not self-serving.

No one accomplishes anything worthwhile on his own. No one.

Great teammates make everyone around them better.

4. Think execution, not just planning.

The best employees develop an idea, create a strategy, set up a basic operational plan… and then execute, adapt, execute, revise, execute, refine, and make incredible things happen based on what works in practice, not in theory.

Success starts with strategy — but ultimately ends with execution.
