Pharmacists : Occupational Outlook Handbook : U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

Pharmacists : Occupational Outlook Handbook : U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics | Career of Pharmacy | Scoop.it
Pharmacists dispense prescription medications to patients and offer advice on their safe use.
William Johnson's insight:

This comes from the United States Department of Labor and provides statistics of basic pharmacy information, such as salry, entry level education, and job outlook. The main thing that caught my eye is that the job outlook from 2010 to 2020 is estimated to be 25 percent, which is faster than the average for all possible occupations. This has huge upside for me as a student now. I have confidence that I may be able to find a job in this field after I finish school because of the high outlook. Hopefully there will be no wait time in between the time I graduate college and being able to find a good-paying job in the market. In addition to this information, this websidte provides useful information based on the average of current pharmacists in the United States.

Pros and Cons of Being a Pharmacist

Pros and Cons of Being a Pharmacist | Career of Pharmacy | Scoop.it
Are you considering a career in Pharmacy? Here are a few pros and cons of working as a pharmacist.
William Johnson's insight:

This online source offered me information on facts of what were the positives and the negatives of being a pharmacist. I found out that the pros are a good salary, great job security, safe working envrionment, and it is not as stressful as other medical jobs such as doctors or surgeons. Some cons include standing on your feet for long hours at a time, having to complete several years of additional school, and having to do repetitive work every day. A lot of these cons do not bother me, as I like doing repetitive things that this job requires because I like to follow a system when working. There is major upside to this career and I am willing to take more time to study in school in order to become a pharmacist.

Rx Career Center - Pharmacy Job Board and Pharmacist Career Center - Washington Pharmacy and Pharmacist Jobs - 04/08/13

Rx Career Center - Pharmacy jobs for the pharmacist, pharmacy technician and pharmaceutical and health care industry professional
William Johnson's insight:

This online source focuses on what possible openings there are for pharmacists in the state of Washington. After I finish studying at college, I plan on staying and working in the state of Washington. This website provides me with locations of firms, clinics, hospitals, or even local stores that have openings for pharmacists. They vary in skill sets, as some locations want technicians, while others want managers or pharmacists in general. In our current setting, it is difficult to find a job anywhere. The economic recession has increased the unemployement rate. One of my fears after I finish school is that I will not be able to find a job right away and suffer with student loans that need to be paid off. I believe that this site is useful in regards with this.

This was a good short article about how the author once wanted to be a doctor, but was advised by many interns and doctors not to do so. Eventually, he was inspired by pharmacists, and is in love with the career. However, he warned readers that the future may be tougher to become a pharmacist for the next generation. Do you want to become a pharmacist? Find out what pharmacists do, how much they earn and what the educational and training requirements are.
William Johnson's insight:

After reading this online source, I was able to determine basic topics of what a day in a pharmacist's life looks like. I was also able to find out that in order to become a licensed pharmacist in the United States, one must take and pass the North American Licensure Exam which is adminstered by the National Associattion of Boards of Pharmacy. Also, different states may require additional exams that are only specific to each state. This source additionally talked about how to advance in this career. Time and experience are what generally gets people promoted to more important and more demanding jobs. This is good to know for the future because I have heard of many cases where people do not advance in their jobs or get promoted. It can be frustrating and difficult to try and further one's career, so this information is much appreciated.
