MildGreen Initiative's insight:

Absent any evidence of impairment (from cannabis) all that has been found is the exhaust, the metabolites of some earlier consumption. Metabolites are proof of nothing. That should not discount the other factors, or that were he IMPAIRED due to cannabis, he should not have been driving. The key question is IMPAIRMENT, not presence of something that is only an indicator of use. Research on 'culpability' in accident scenarios (vs mere measureing the background cannabis use in society) shows It is quite possible that moderate cannabis use has NO BEARING WHATSOEVER. Indeed the research in this crucial aspect in South Australia showed moderate cannabis use was LESS LIKELY to be a factor in (causative) accident frequency and severity than people who didnt consume cannabis at all.  That is why research has also shown that tiredness, stress, prescription medications  and other distractions (cellphones/txt etc) ARE significantly greater factors.

Where we need to make progress is in education that is enabled (we know what to teach, we just need the receptive audience to hear it) that is targeted towards teh at risk group, mainly young males. There is your effective intervention. However as many will realise 'credible education' comes at the price of prohibition - the removal of the double standards that the *identified  impediment to that outreach.

Police happy with haul

More than 7000 cannabis plants have been seized in a police operation in Central District.
MildGreen Initiative's insight:

"The cannabis trade is a destructive force in New Zealand society." - Police say there is a link between organised crime and the cannabis trade.  They might right....

Its called Prohibition you fools.

Further, it is contrary to the purpose and function of the Armed Services to use its military might in the furtherance of a political opinion aided and abetted by a civil police force responsible to protect and serve and uphold 'truth' as a matter of standards.

That Police argue for this breach of governance is a blight on civil society. It does so to enforce a [as misplaced as it may be] health paradigm. Would we do the same to protect people from STD's?, Searching people to see if they have condoms? how about arresting and jailing people for getting whooping cough!

The ONLY connection of guns, registered or otherwise to cannabis is through set and setting of prohibition. Evidence from the jurisictions who have a more enlightened public policy in respect of cannabis shows guns are no more connected to the pharmacology than firearms are to rabbits.

If prohibition is (proven to be) CRIMINOGENIC then POLICE should be of a mind to tell better stories.

No one notices the escalation of firepower and resources  give to the AOS and the corresponding 'relationship' with the war on some drugs. Look at t deaths of Police Officers (on and off duty) many of whom are dead because of prohibitions unintended consequences of alienation from rule of law, deviancy amplification and confrontational dispute resolution.

"Burns said the drug haul demonstrated that routine road stops could uncover serious offending"- at the risk of implementing 'stop and frisk' and all that that means in feeding prejudices and injustices on a grand scale.

Cannabis, LSD and MDMA are the least of our problems. The Police are furthering their deceitful case of saving us all from a myriad of made up social harms as they continue their litany of lies they call 'better stories'. We frequently hear that smoking cannabis, and particularly frequent use, can lead to developing serious psychological problems like schizophrenia.
MildGreen Initiative's insight:

The omitted psychological problem is that caused by the illicit status, the naming and shaming, prejudices and vile disturbance to self esteem, safety, sanity and well-being  that occurs entirely due to unintended consequences of prohibition. For these are causative relationships. These are not 'dose dependent' - they are a product of intolerance and prejudice that is manifest in 'the law' and not the pharmacology. Try a more principled health paradigm..... FFS!

MildGreen Initiative's insight:

"This month, I wrote about Blue Moon beer creator Keith Villa and his experiments with marijuana beer, as well as considering the beverage makers who are already taking advantage of the new laws in Colorado and Washington. But, what Brown-Forman is seemingly worried about is not the threat from cannabis-based alcohol, but that the use of the drug could replace drinking alcohol at a social level."

So drugs are fungible.....legal for illegal,  vice versa - no matter.
