A Swedish scientist, Professor Essand, has developed and tested a virus that effectively eradicates endocrine tumors in mice (the same cancer that killed Steve Jobs), and now wishes to test the same approach in humans. However drug companies would not pick up and test it because Professor Essand had published his findings, and therefore pharma companies would be unable to obtain a patent to enable them to make money from the therapy.
So crowd-funding has been initiated to try to raise the money to enable Professor Essand to do the necessary trials. This is a major shift and its apparent success in obtaining funds indicates that there are people willing to support something that shows merit, without the need for financial gain.
Let’s hope Professor Essand is successful and on the right track.
