Can You Qualify for Social Security Benefits Because of Epilepsy?
Adults with epilepsy may be eligible for Social Security benefits upon the evaluation by the Social Security Administration. They mainly evaluate a person suffering with epilepsy based according to the type, duration, frequency and characteristics of seizures. As we all know that having epilepsy does not necessarily mean that you are disabled if it's well-controlled. To have Social security benefits you need to prove that epilepsy affects your everyday activities. Social Security Administration also evaluates that your seizures is not a result from alcohol consumption or drug intervention.

Having Alzheimer’s Disease May Increase The Risk Of Seizure In Elderly

Alzheimer’s disease or AD is a non reversible brain disorder that takes years to develop inside the brain. In elderly, it initiates as memory loss and confusion which is commonly mistook for the associated problem of normal aging.

Janys Venne's insight:

At the development stage of Alzheimer’s disease the protein called beta amyloid starts building up in the brain and creates a plaque. While researches are being done to determine, how actually it happens, it has been anticipated that this plaque can cause nerve damage in the brain that further lead to the poor cognitive and motor function. These changes are also responsible for increased risk of seizures including petit mal and partial complex seizure. It’s not necessary that AD will surely cause a seizure; however, a risk is always there.

Medication without proper prescription of the doctor is the main reason of the incidence of seizures. Exposure to certain toxins and side effects of medicines are the well known causes. It is also said that those people who used to consume a lot of alcohol and now taking medicines for its less consumption are the first ones to be hunted by grand mal seizures; tranquilizers are very dangerous because they can lead you to lethal seizures and liver disorders especially in the case of physical withdrawal.
