University of Arizona aiding in prevention of mega forest fires | The Prescott Daily Courier

As Arizona's 2014 wildfire season draws to a close, let's assess the costs - millions of dollars and nearly 200,000 acres of grassland and forest burned. On the plus side, roughly 120,000 acres of prescribed fires, managed by the U.S. Forest Service, occurred to remove excess fuels such as dead wood, dry brush and grasses, which fuel wildfires.
