The University of Arizona Agricultural Center and the USDA Arid Land Agricultural Research Center teamed up on Saturday to host a Farm Science Day, attracting children from area to come learn about everything from plants to bugs to water. A cricket-spitting contest and tractor rides were part of the mid-day event.

Cricket spitting was back in Maricopa on Saturday for Farm Day on Nov. 21 at the University of Arizona’s Maricopa Agricultural Center. Agriculture was front and center throughout the day as people of all ages had the chance to learn something about where their food and other products come from. The event also served to connect the community with the MAC, educating them about what it is the center does.

There’s corn for people and corn for cows. Pinal County is pretty much corn-for-cows country. Cow corn is called silage. Most of the corn planted and harvested in Pinal County is silage.
