Chris Brown's curator insight, February 11, 2014 9:31 AM

This is a longer article and sets out some thoughts around the managing emotions and success. There are studies cited that indicate how optimal performance is effected by stress. The higher the severity and duration, the more negative the impact on performance. Optimal performance is not achieved with low stress. Finding that sweet-spot seems fleeting.

There are some good practicle suggestions for steps to take to reduce hi levels of stress.

Three that struck me are 1) staying positive, 2) avoiding "What ifs" and 3) Disconnecting. Each of these are actions that I can work to build on to help reduce the stress duration and to increase my performance level.

Look at these actions and pick one to work into your life.

It's "time to take steps to wean yourself off tech."  Here are 5 great suggestions from Ellen Lee of CNBC.com:

  1. Tell time the old fashioned way.  Wear a watch.  Get a non-digital clock. (Do they even exist any more?)
  2. No more smartphones in the bathroom.  Seriously!
  3. Schedule a tech break each and every day.  Just do it!
  4. Disable notifications.  No more buzzes, bells or beeps.
  5. Give SnapChat a rest and carry a journal to record some of your experiences.
