The space for social media in structured online learning | CALL | Scoop.it
In this paper, we explore the benefits of using social media in an online educational setting, with a particular focus on the use of Facebook and Twitter by participants in a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) developed to enable educators to learn about the Carpe Diem learning design process. We define social media as digital social tools and environments located outside of the provision of a formal university-provided Learning Management System.

The Digital Writing Process

The Digital Writing Process | CALL | Scoop.it

Now, with nearly 20 years of middle and high school teaching behind me, I still respect the writing process approach and its benefits. I also recognize that the nature of writing has changed tremendously over those two decades due to the significant influence of digital tools and sources. Of course, today’s composers still must meet the commonly accepted conventions of the genre in which they are engaged, but our visual digital culture creates different demands than did the primarily print text-based world.

Digital Communication Students's curator insight, December 4, 2015 7:00 AM

"The nature of writing has changed tremendously over those two decades due to the significant influence of digital tools and sources". We completely agree with this phrase. Our way of writing is changing more than we notice. I figure that adults notice this more than young people, because this last group were born with the Internet. Nevertheless, its very important to learn how to write properly, this article provides the tools and the practice we need.

Preparing for the digital university: a review of the history and current state of distance, blended, and online learning

Preparing for the digital university: a review of the history and current state of distance, blended, and online learning | CALL | Scoop.it

The sheer scale of numbers of students led to bold proclamations of education disruption and a sector on the verge of systemic change. However, from the perspective of 2015, these statements appear increasingly erroneous as moocs have proven to be simply an additional learning opportunity instead of a direct challenge to higher education itself. Many of the issues confronting early mooc development and offerings could have been reduced if greater consideration was given to research literature in learning sciences and technology enabled learning.

ICTE Solutions Australia's curator insight, December 28, 2015 11:43 PM

In an ICT integrated society, it is important that people are information literate. That means being able to search for and analyse information for their benefits. As websites on the Internet become more popular teachers need to teach their students the right skills and knowledge so that their students are able to become information literate. Any guide therefore, that will assist teachers in doing so is worth using as a resource as reference for both teachers and students to use.

By making these reflection pieces and the youth work available to the expanding Digitally Connected network as well as the public at large, we hope to continue and further stimulate the global conversation about both the challenges and opportunities children and youth encounter in the digital environment.
