Motorcycle Safety Tips for Navigating in Bad Weather

Motorcycle Safety Tips for Navigating in Bad Weather | California Motorcycle Accident Attorney News | Scoop.it
You might be a pro rider when the sun's out, but how do you handle biking in bad weather? Learn to handle harsh conditions on your bike with these motorcycle safety tips.
Steven M. Sweat's insight:

In California, the rain comes in the winter and spring.  This makes it difficult for any motor vehicle but, especially for motorcycles.  This blog provides some great tips on navigating a bike in bad weather including the following:

  • Take it easy on your brakes and throttle
  • Align your bike with tire tracks left by cars (the road is a little dryer there)
  • Wet weather proof your gear (e.g. putting Rain-X or a similar water repellent on your helmet visor can make a big difference for visibility).

8 Great Beginner Riding Habits for Motorcyclists

8 Great Beginner Riding Habits for Motorcyclists | California Motorcycle Accident Attorney News | Scoop.it
There are a few things that it will take you a few months to learn once you finally get your motorcycle and you start riding regularly. If you are lucky you will have a riding mentor with some experience help guide you and tell you some of these tips, but if you don’t then feel free to study this guide. This is a lot to remember at first so when I started riding I would only concentrate on doing one thing really well for the whole ride, like looking through the turn for example. Eventually this becomes automatic and you can concentrate on building other good habits.
Steven M. Sweat's insight:

This is great resource article for beginning motorcyclists.  Operating a motorbike is much different than driving a car in so many ways.  This article stresses some of those differences, which are a part of many beginning riding courses.  In my opinion as a lawyer that represents bikers injured in motor vehicle collisions, every person should take a thorough motorcycle safety course prior to taking the highway on two wheels!

For more information concerning Rhode Island Car Accident lawyer please visit:

http://ricaraccidentlawyers.com/car-accidents-involving-speeding-ri-car-accident-attorney/

an article by RI Car Accident lawyer David Slepkow 401-437-1100
excerpt:

The nation and State of Rhode Island pays a high price for the loss of human life, severe injuries and property damage caused by motor vehicle accidents involving speeding. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) indicates that more than 10,000 lives were lost in 2012 from speed-related accidents. This number represents an increase in total deaths associated with speeding on the nation’s roadways in previous years.

State laws in RI require that every driver observe and obey the street’s posted speed limit. On streets without posted speed limit signs, the motorist is expected to operate their vehicle at a reasonable, safe speed, which is typically set by the town, city, municipality or state.

Driving at excessive speeds in Rhode Island in congested areas can be especially dangerous. This is because motorists operating their vehicle in tight or congested areas in providence often do not have ample space to correct any mistakes without causing a collision with objects and other vehicles. Driving at accelerated speeds on straightaways or when changing lanes, can easily cause a speed related accident.

Motorcycle Lane-Splitting Could Be Sanctioned by More States than California

Motorcycle Lane-Splitting Could Be Sanctioned by More States than California | California Motorcycle Accident Attorney News | Scoop.it
California is the only state where motorcyclists are allowed to cruise between lanes of cars, but an effort to legalize so-called lane-splitting in other states is gathering momentum.
Steven M. Sweat's insight:

California is currently the only state where splitting lanes on a motorcycle on a surface street or freeway is not illegal.  That may soon change as several other jurisdictions are not considering allowing bikers to split lanes.  As a motorcycle accident attorney in Los Angeles, I have mixed feelings about this practice and I have explained what CA law really says and doesn't say on this issue in my blog post here .

Chain Reaction Crash on 405 Freeway Kills Los Angeles Biker

Chain Reaction Crash on 405 Freeway Kills Los Angeles Biker | California Motorcycle Accident Attorney News | Scoop.it
The investigation of a fatal four-vehicle crash stopped traffic in both directions on the 405 Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass for several hours overnight.
Steven M. Sweat's insight:

Unfortunately, given the volume of traffic, number of lanes and speed of vehicles, these "chain reaction" type crashes are not uncommon on our Los Angeles freeways.  This one started with one vehicle losing control, striking another, a third swerving to avoid debris and hitting a motorcycle rider.  The biker was ejected from his motorcycle.  He was later pronounced dead.  There was probably nothing the motorcycle rider could have done in this instance except ride toward either side of the freeway, giving himself and "out" in the emergency lane.  The lega fault of this incident originates with the driver who lost control but, unsafe speed or overreaction resulting in an unsafe lane change could have been contributing factors on the part of the motor vehicle operators.  Our condolences to the family of this motorcycle rider!

The Washington Department of Licensing is raising awareness in terms of road safety. It’s mainly focused on ways of driving alongside with motorcyclists.

A nice concept and quite educational, the video is showing a teenage boy driving a car and sharing the road with a motorcycle driver.
It elaborates a bit on common mistakes car drivers make, and clears a lot of prejudice about motorcyclists. Thus, motorcycle being a different vehicle than a car, it has its advantages and disadvantages.
A lot of myths about motorcycle driving are explained and a lot of ways are shown in order to keep you safe on the road, whether you are a car driver or a motorcycle driver. The video nicely packed brings a new perspective to motorcycle driving.
