Ebola easier to stop now than later

unit 1 diffusion!

Michael Mazo's curator insight, October 6, 2:54 PM

Ebola has been a growing concern for some time now. With its origin in Africa to its spreading throughout the world, people have become increasingly worried about contracting Ebola. With the initial diagnosis of the first patient infected with Ebola in the US, the CDC has been working constantly to prevent further spread of this infectious disease. Not only has this raised medical concerns, but as soon as the Ebola outbreak has entered the United States Biotechnology stocks began to rise. With the help of devices and programs stemming from Biotechnology there is great hope for eradicating the disease once and for all. Even healthcare workers are hesitant upon working with infected individuals, so hopefully biotech will enter with a grand entrance by providing materials or machinery to help prevent these workers from getting Ebola.

Wilmine Merlain's curator insight, October 16, 11:46 AM

Although Ebola is a disease that can be stopped now, different measures need to be taken now. With the vaccines that were administered to the Ebola aid workers that were working in the site of the outbreak, mass production of that vaccine should be created and made available to those who are believed to be infected with this parasite.

Math is Harder When Using an iPad ~ Mrs. Wideen's Blog

Math is Harder When Using an iPad ~ Mrs. Wideen's Blog | CAEXI Expertises | Scoop.it
I do not use a lot of worksheets in my math program. So much so, that last week, I gave a worksheet during math to my grade 2 students to do and one of my students cheered. CHEERED! For a worksheet! I asked the child in my class why she cheered. I figured that she would have responded with, "I like worksheets." If she had answered that way, I would have been fine with that. I believe that we all have our own learning preferences and some children enjoy doing worksheets. However I would never have anticipated what she said to me. She responded with,

"I like doing worksheets better than using the iPads because I don't have to think as much."

The first thing I think you should realize is that   “good” is subjective. 15 retweets for someone brand new to Twitter is probably pretty awesome. For others, they may not be happy until they see engagement numbers in the hundreds. So, step one is to figure out what is realistic for where you are at now. Be aggressive but realistic.

Startups Vs. Fortune 100: Keep Thinking Like a Startup

Startups Vs. Fortune 100: Keep Thinking Like a Startup | CAEXI Expertises | Scoop.it

The ability to shoot outstanding video footage, is taking a giant leap forward going into 2015.

The specs on GoPro's new Hero 4 are jaw-dropping-- UltraHD 4k video at 30 frames per second?! 1080p HD video at 120 frames per second?! WiFi & Bluetooth all in a box that weighs about as much as a Snicker's bar and priced at only $500?!

Jaw appropriately dropped.

Along with the continually improving camera technologies, drone tech is keeping pace and it's giving cinematographers options for new perspectives that up until a year or two ago were imaginable only with CGI.

To get a sample of the creative options this combination offers filmmakers and cinematographers take a look at PlexiDrone's video: http://youtu.be/hROA-vOyId4 ;

Rise of Purpose-Driven Social #Marketing Brands #infographic via @MarketingHits | CAEXI Expertises | Scoop.it

An interesting blog post about the increasing traction that social activism is getting in social media marketing. Of particular note is the notion that this is becoming a new and powerful means for #brands to articulate positions and execute campaigns on a wide variety of social issues.

Martin (Marty) Smith's curator insight, September 10, 3:33 AM

Brian is SPOT ON here as usual. We've been watching the annual Cone Consumer Activism Survey for years. The number of consumes who want their brands to do the right thing about health, the planet and human rights has grown steadily for years.

Brian is right when he says it isn't enough to make a great widget anymore. Everyone makes a great widget now. Now we buy from those who are "like us" and who we love.

You can't buy love, but you can sure influence it by your deeds and actions. When I started selling bar soap for P&G a lifetime ago (1981) what a marketer SAID was important.

Marketing was about knitting SAYINGS together and repeating them enough to drill them into memory. Now marketing is about what we DO and any dissonance between what we DO and SAY is death.

Karen Dietz's curator insight, September 10, 6:14 PM

Here's a handy infographic that addresses a shift happening in business: being purpose driven and sharing that story.

Being purpose driven means a company focuses on how their products/services not only solve a customer's problem or fulfills a need, but also positively contributes to fixing a social problem or makes a difference to humanity/the planet.

Certainly this infographic shows the consumer desire for this and the opportunity gap for businesses.

But hold on! If you name this activity "purpose driven marketing" you are already following the path to ruin. Why?? Because it will be a marketing project (re: a snow job) instead of the way the company fundamentally does business.

So be like Patagonia and a few other companies who really are purpose driven. There are far more companies today who are just jumping on this bandwagon but not walking their talk.

But if you can tell this kind of powerful story about your business, all kinds of rewards are in store for you.

This is a really compelling article that challenged me to reflect on the challenges of leadership.

Miklos Szilagyi's curator insight, August 22, 3:25 AM

It's a very intersting topic and mostly I undersign it... though it's culture-dependent too... the context, the connotation you might have by reading e.g. this title... that  might  count too...  coming from a region where story-telling might be a substitute of lots of things, among other things, lying, or - as one of my cross-cultural researcher friend said once - saying "no", I have some reserves... but even in the Anerican culture, whether the executives of Enron e.g. weren't (surely not authentic but) excellent story-tellers? If you are with me on that...

Of course, the message goes better into the deep with emotions and what is better than the story-telling like emotion-vehicle? of course... but to say that the future leader's main characteristics are courage and story-telling capacity is, I don't know, IMHO, not only simplistic but simply not enough...

Starting by the main point what story he/she should so well and authentically tell? What the content is of this famous story? I would start here when drawing this profile... and yes the sellability, the motivation-power, the capacity of  being able to attract the followers, to be able to align their energy are also important but somehow the content of all these has a certain priority in my mind...

S'Marie Young, CPCC's curator insight, August 22, 3:00 PM

This article highlights some of the qualities successful leaders of the present and future must cultivate, such as courage, resiliency, permeability and transparency. These qualities create a powerful presence, one that people can trust.

Presence is knowing yourself, your values, passions and goals, and being able to communicate them authentically. Presence is also being empathetic to the aspirations of others.
