Something Startling This Way Comes -- The Role of Wonder in Biz Stories

Something Startling This Way Comes -- The Role of Wonder in Biz Stories | Customer, Consumer, Client Centricity | Scoop.it
This stage in story design is itself another face of wonder. Wonder is experiencing something anew. At first, wonder opens us to the moment, feeling suspended in time and space for a few seconds. Or a few months.

Wow -- what a gem of an article! I love love love it.  It's perspective is unique, different and so right on.

The author, Jeffery Davis, tackles the emotion of wonder and how critical it is for 'storytellers and business artists' (that's us, BTW) to understand it, and build it into our organizational stories.

Awesome!

Davis does a great job explaining 2 types of wonder and how they relate to business and business storytelling. He talks about why working with wonder is important, and then goes on to suggest how we can bring wonder into the stories we share.

Run -- don't walk -- to read this significant piece. You will be glad you did!

GE Tells The Stories Of The World’s Innovators With “Focus Forward”

GE Tells The Stories Of The World’s Innovators With “Focus Forward” | Customer, Consumer, Client Centricity | Scoop.it
GE is wrapping its 18-month long Focus Forward campaign--which launched at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival and has traveled a world of festivals in between--this week at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Via Karen Dietz
Denyse Drummond-Dunn's insight:

Storytelling and video combined into one powerful campaign. Now that's what I call inspiration!

Karen Dietz's curator insight, May 1, 4:51 PM

GE is providing is a great example of how to do content marketing with stories -- and doing it in such a way that the stories they share about others are front and center.

That means GE is promoting itself in soft ways by not screaming at people, "Here's what we are doing for you today!"

I love it. These are great stories and because GE is attached to them, they reap the rewards.

So what does this mean for you? Well, if you are an enteprise, the articles has great stats on how much GE has devoted to the campaign and how it's worked for them.

For a small business, the lesson is all about sharing the stories of how your customers are heros (not you), and that creating content with these stories is a real winner for your businss.

I also really like how this article also shares the steps to success in sharing someone else's story. The medium GE is using is digital storytelling. But the same tips apply to any business of any size.

And besides, it's Friday and the GE films are inpsiring. Follow the "Focus Forward" link to view them.

6 Easy Ways To Remember Someone's Name

Denyse Drummond-Dunn's insight:

Simple ideas we can all use to better remember names

Grenville Taylor's comment, April 9, 4:12 AM
Word of warning as an old-un nothing makes me more suspicious that someone who appears to have unnatural and decisiveness, recall of names or event. An old fashioned foreman (and ex-military policeman) once advised me if any two people (be they subordinates or superiors) appear to agree on anything be it names, descriptions proposed actions or past events, take it serious because the chances are one or both are lying or trying to pull the wool over your eyes. As a result of course I neither trust modern business or politicians who all seem only too ready to put others lively hoods and indeed lives at risk but never ever their own by showing true grit, commitment and leadership.
Tia Ribary's curator insight, April 12, 5:17 PM

Remembering someone's name when you meet them is as much a part of marketing as anything else (a first step in the know, like, trust factor)! I must say, I am terribly guilty of forgetting names and I've been embarrased a time or two because of it.

This article provides excellent steps on ways to remember someone's name. I think the most important ones are repeating the name, and visualization of something memorable.

I once heard a memory expert state that our brains remember pictures. So, associate that name with a picture (a memorable picture) and it is more easily recalled. I can tell you, this takes practice! But, it works. I know because I am practicing it!

I hope this helps you as well!

claire butterworth's curator insight, April 16, 4:25 AM

Forgetting the name of a client, employee, business associate or supplier, can cause a business owner a substantial loss of credibility, as well as having the potential to undermine the existing relationship.
