Videos turn homework on its head

Videos turn homework on its head | BYOD iPads | Scoop.it

"PETER Smythe has often been accused of being a little back to front. The year 11 mathematics teacher at Canberra's Gungahlin College has reversed the concept of 'class work'' and 'homework'. Every day he sends his students a series of YouTube links to self-recorded videos of himself lecturing and asks them to study the clips at home. Then in class, he asks them to pull out their homework and work through all the exercises associated with last night's 'lesson'. It may sound a little strange, but the concept of the 'flipped classroom' is being celebrated as a eureka moment by educators."

The Ultimate Guide to The Use of Facebook in Education

The Ultimate Guide to The Use of Facebook in Education | BYOD iPads | Scoop.it

There is a growing controversy over the use of Facebook in education. Some argue for its integration and others disfavour it. I believe that the main reason behind this controversy is the lack of solid empirical researches about the overall value of not only Facebook but all other popular social networking in education. There are , however, some researchers ( like Crook and Harrison ,Charnigo, Barnett-Ellis, Hewitt and Forte, Mathews, Mazer and Murphy ) who have written about the potential of social networking in education, yet only few studies have specifically addressed its role in pedagogy.

Whit's End: iPads in the classroom--The student perspective part one

iPads in the classroom--The student perspective part one
There's lots of buzz out there about iPads, going 1:1 and technology in the classroom. I've just completed a school year of having my students using iPads in my classroom on a damn near daily basis, and I wanted to know what they think this tool was good for. Did it help them? hurt them? make them better students?
