7 Ways To Keep Students Focused [and avoid distraction] While Using Technology

7 Ways To Keep Students Focused [and avoid distraction] While Using Technology | BYOD iPads | Scoop.it

"When used effectively, technology plays an important role in enhancing the learning process. Teachers can use digital devices to present supplemental material for lessons or to encourage students to take a more hands-on role in their education. Even with all of the benefits of technology in the classroom, however, educators must use caution to ensure that students are focusing on the lesson and not giving in to distractions."

This post suggests seven ways that teachers can use to help students pay more attention when using technology.

Why the iPad is Bad for Education | BYOD iPads | Scoop.it

‘Amazing, revolutionary, a new era in technology’. The iPad may be all these things but in James McConville's humble opinion it is bad for education and schools. Here are some of his reasons.

Asking "why" you want iPads is a critical question... - iPads in Education | BYOD iPads | Scoop.it

"In his book "Start with Why" and the accompanying TED talk, author Simon Sinek claims that we're all very clear about “what” we do. In fact, you often define yourself by what you do - "I'm a teacher" for example. You focus heavily on "how" you should do whatever it is you do and usually develop a routine to make it easier."

Why Go 1:1 iPad?

Why Go 1:1 iPad? | BYOD iPads | Scoop.it

The History 2.0 Classroom

Fundamentally I believe that an iPad can neither be good or bad. All it can ever be is an iPad. I argue instead, that when used effectively and with specific goals in mind, iPads can have a positive impact on education. Seeing that schools are investing money on these devices, the perspective to adopt is not a combative one, but rather one that explores how to effectively integrate the devices. Whether a school is 1:1, or there is a shared iPad cart, the devices can be used effectively.

First school iPad deployment with iOS 5 step by step

Recently I have been doing a lot of research on what the workflow to deploy a number of iPads at a school would look like. I discovered there are lots of resources on the internet that focus on how they will be used in the classrooms, but there was not much that I was able to find on the best practices in the steps taken to prepare them for use. Based on some research, I put down on paper an order of steps that I thought made sense and worked on a small deployment of about 40 iPads.

What Happens on iPads Stays on iPads

What Happens on iPads Stays on iPads | BYOD iPads | Scoop.it

"A big issue with school mobile devices is that they are often shared, and don’t have full profile accounts like a computer does. This means that any user has access to any app or information from any other user. I put together a poster (prints best in 11×17 Tabloid size paper) that talks about some of the basic things students should consider when using shared mobile devices to keep themselves safe and to respect others they are working with. Check out this Digital Citizenship & iPads - http://edapps.ca/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Digital-Citizenship-iPads.pdf "
