Make it so!: NASA engineers say they successfully tested a real ‘warp drive’ | Raw Story | 04/30/15 | FDW's Daily Scoops | Scoop.it

NASA has successfully tested a type of drive that could eventually take the concept of “warp drive” from science-fiction to reality, CNET reported.

The experiment, conducted at the Johnson Space Center in Texas, found that an electromagnetic drive, or “EMDrive,” was able to function in a vaccuum — something that even NASA has stated would defy the laws of motion.

The drive works by turning electrical energy into thrust without requiring standard fuel. The electricity is provided instead by solar energy.

Getting to the Root: Enriching the Land to Enrich Livelihoods | Clinton Foundation | 04/22/15 | FDW's Daily Scoops | Scoop.it
Smallholder farmers live off their land. They depend on the strength of their agricultural systems, using their land to grow food to feed their families while harvest surpluses are sold in markets for supplemental income. Generally, the success of agricultural systems depends on sound agronomic practices, access to and utilization of high quality seed and inputs, and the environment.  In most agrarian societies or countries, deforestation, burning of croplands, mono-cropping and tillage are persistent issues that can undermine the efficiency and productivity of agricultural systems.
Franklin Delano Williams's insight:

....What if a garden could grow a healthier generation?

What if a tree could sprout a new economy?

Climate change and sustainability are at the root of many pressing global issues. In recognition of Earth Day, we're highlighting how projects that keep our planet healthy can also advance progress for individuals and communities around the world.

From "farm to tray" school lunch programs that help fight childhood obesity to reforestation projects that create good jobs in Haiti, our innovative solutions are improving people's lives while also supporting sustainability.
