7 Ways Your Content Can Increase Facebook Engagement

7 Ways Your Content Can Increase Facebook Engagement | Buyer Traffic Generation | Content & Video Marketing | SEO | Scoop.it
A study conducted via Facebook set out to investigate what type of content was more effective to engage the target audience for an advertiser on social media. Here are seven key points from their findings and some recommended actions you can take.
Michael Kristiansen's insight:

What a great piece by Purna Virji, reporting comScore's '12 data used to uncover strategies that help writing content hit the goal of reaching the audience and creating engagement.  There certainly is more to the formula 60% entertainment, 30% inspiring, and 10% promotional content.  The questions formulated by Stanford and UOPenn to break down what it is that make more effective engagement happen in social media.

Content marketing is only as effective as the quality and delivery of telling the story.  Being persuasive through emotional appeal, is the most powerful when the content truly delivers high value to the audience.  The tendency to write informative content does not rise the the power emotion has, however mixing emotion with informative content helps generate the social engagement that captivates.

Here’s One Thing That’s Wrong With The New YouTube Comments

Here’s One Thing That’s Wrong With The New YouTube Comments | Buyer Traffic Generation | Content & Video Marketing | SEO | Scoop.it
Google recently implemented a new commenting system on YouTube, which integrates Google+ into comments on YouTube video pages. Maybe you've heard about it.

Have you …
Michael Kristiansen's insight:

This does change the nature of what someone would comment on when the comment shows on Youtube as well as when shared.  If the intention is to share, a comment on Youtube might just say, 'hey Sammy, take a look at this video'....which would make no sense in the comment feed on YouTube.  What one would say to people they know when sharing can be entirely different in what they would put in a comment that shows on YouTube.  This has the video creators up in arms because they end up with comments that make little sense.  I don't know why YouTube and Google+ did not think this through.  This is causing some backlash for Google+ to be integrated in this way.  Video marketing pros would like the ability to drop a link in comments because it does not show as a link unless you mouse over it.  Check out any YouTube video on the YT site and try out the new commenting system and if you will, comment on my blog what your take is.

The Top Five Social Media Marketing Mistakes and How to Fix Them - Jeffbullas's Blog

The Top Five Social Media Marketing Mistakes and How to Fix Them - Jeffbullas's Blog | Buyer Traffic Generation | Content & Video Marketing | SEO | Scoop.it
Social media marketing is still the hot topic in town. Rookie mistakes are even made by big business. Here are the top five social media marketing mistakes.
Michael Kristiansen's insight:

This is by far, a great reminder to get on track with social media marketing by narrowing down the platforms to a very few.  Makes no sense to spread yourself thin, or your resources thin.  Better to truly engage on one or two social networks and provide high value content to your members.  There's a great reminder about social being the place to share entertaining content that helps people want to be a part of what your network has to offer.  Content marketing is not anywhere near traditional advertising, keep the all about my company for places advertising is accepted.  Ok to have some, but it's the entertaining and valuable help that should be concentrated on.  Great article by Bill Nixon.  I believe there are two concurrent strategies a business should be doing, one is content marketing, the other is direct response advertising.  Just use both in the proper balance and venues.  Marketing is readying people by providing education, entertainment wrapped around your product/service, and direct response offers capture the people ready to buy.

Google takes steps towards a fully-subscribed search service, to the detriment of advertisers
Michael Kristiansen's insight:

By turning off organic keyword search referral data, Google has increased revenues with a stronger pay to play model.  Businesses today are better off being less search engine dependent.  If 20% of business comes from search and 80% from everywhere else, there's less chance of disruption in business caused by changes of a single advertiser such as Google.

Design Social Media Strategies through ROI Analysis

Design Social Media Strategies through ROI Analysis | Buyer Traffic Generation | Content & Video Marketing | SEO | Scoop.it
Realizations spawned the need for determining social media ROI in order to design the marketing budget.
Michael Kristiansen's insight:

Understanding sensitivity, whether a dollar returns more or less return on investment is one thing, but there seems most companies jump on social media marketing because it has a very low investment appeal compared to other types of advertising, such as cost per click. The analytics needed to measure sensitivity can provide a snapshot estimate of business originating from social media, mentioned is the method of simply asking at point of purchase where they 'heard' about their product or service.  That is certainly data open to interpretation.  The real costs come into play coming up with awesome content that drives engagement and business.

Here's Why Native Advertising Will Rescue The Mobile Advertising Industry

Here's Why Native Advertising Will Rescue The Mobile Advertising Industry | Buyer Traffic Generation | Content & Video Marketing | SEO | Scoop.it
A native ad is conceived for specific sites or apps and are a natural part of the experience.
Michael Kristiansen's insight:

My experience has shown that email marketing, sending solo ads to a high quality opt-in list receptive to receiving deals is more effective now than ever, since people are using their smartphones to check their mail, and email campaigns deliver mobile friendly ads.

Native ads cost more than banner ads because of performance.  These look great on mobile and are getting far better click through rates and engagement.  Since that is the direction everything is going, advertising platforms that cater to mobile advertising that take advantage of the small screen space.   The reason for higher effectiveness is the native ad is an important part of the app experience and scores better when measured as a cost per engagement.   It looks to do well into the future through social media apps because of the single column streaming.  The drawbacks have more to do with media buyers who find difficulty is scaling up since native ads are integrated into the content making native more powerful for specific campaigns.

Michael Kristiansen's insight:

Understanding video marketing analytics helps you know what's working and what is not.  The other tips deal with knowing your audience and the most searched for types of videos.  And, if you are in a local market, taking advantage of the ad options for targeting.  The more specific geographically, the narrower the results get while the quality of the audience goes up.  There's not much said about building a volume of high quality video content on a channel, but that is what will attract subscribers and build a stronger reach as the channel gets shared more.

Video Adds Value to Ecommerce Marketing - Multichannel Merchant | Buyer Traffic Generation | Content & Video Marketing | SEO | Scoop.it
Video can be used in ecommerce marketing to promote products after people have visited your site and/or placed an order, or attract visitors to your site as they’re surfing the web.
Michael Kristiansen's insight:

Videos that explain and show off a product or service enhances sales and engagement through sharing.  Using multi-channels expands the video's reach, perfect for email marketing and retargeting to increase initial interest and help move prospects closer to making the purchase decision.  Great video marketing strategies when implemented, can score well in search with optimized tags and content.  http://youtu.be/fA382QJ5OrA

Not always considered, but a great opportunity is to advertise through paid search and display advertising.  Social media networks including Pinterest and short versions on Vine for example can help reach a receptive audience.  Article by Dr. Melody King certainly opens the door past embedding a video on YouTube and a website.  There's a lot of audience to reach through further syndication.

A guest post by Steven Rosenbaum, CEO of Magnify.net, about how the increase in video consumption and raw data online is ushering the Age of Curation.
Michael Kristiansen's insight:

Well, I curate and I've been curated!  If curation is still a bit of a mystery, for why it's important, this article spells out a lot.  All five laws of the curation economy are valid, worth the time to understand curation as a profession that will deliver high quality content in highly defined categories.  The degree of quality will depend on the heart, mind and soul of the curator, much like the example of how a chef makes all the difference in a fine restaurant.  Having been a chef-owner, I really understand the curator's ultimate judgement will be the increase in interest, easily measured by bounce rate, time spent on a website and number of pages visited.  The very hallmarks that differentiate great websites from the not so great.  The clients I qualify and choose to curate and create original content for have seen their sites increase their stature and success.

Michael Kristiansen's insight:

Repurposing orignal content makes a lot of sense,  appealing to a larger audience by changing the platform the content is using helps make the investment in time and money attain greater results.  Converting high value content into a video, pdf format, slide presentation (post on slideshare) will mean less dependence on search engines for traffic while at the same time helping to increase ranking for the content on search engines.

I believe curation can bring rich content to a site faster and lower cost than producing, reproducing, syndicating orginal content.  However, producing rich and original content mixed with curated is the best path to giving site visitors reason and desire to keep coming back.

The Tribe of Fans and Followers Who Can Amplify Your Brand

The Tribe of Fans and Followers Who Can Amplify Your Brand | Buyer Traffic Generation | Content & Video Marketing | SEO | Scoop.it
As businesses and brands we often pay for attention. But there is a different way. There is a tribe of marketers who can amplify your brand for free.
Michael Kristiansen's insight:

Content marketing helps build authority and brand at the same time.  The problem for most business with small budgets is committment to spending the time and getting it right.  I've found a good mix of original content that entertains and educates is likely to be shared a lot more than content that is self serving.  Envelope your brand inside great story telling and people will share and start their own story built on top of yours.....that is, if your storytelling excites and creates an emotional bond with your brand.  Earned media is when fans produce their own content about your brand.  Large brands have teams of creative people to get the ball rolling and can afford to test different ideas out.  Small businesses don't have that kind of budget, so it's best to work on a video marketing campaign that begins with storytelling that carries high emotional appeal and use product placement strategy to make the story come first.  A campaign gives the idea to build on the same story and carry emotional appeal that draws interest in sharing the story.  Storytelling using video is a powerful tool that can go much farther and be remembered over time, thus increasing effectiveness as the video campaign also builds over time.

Pinterest released a new feature that allows brands to tap into the API and create dedicated pages on their websites that feature the latest trending pins around their brand. Pinterest is working with a handful of brands to test this feature.
Michael Kristiansen's insight:

One of the great opportunities to draw traffic to your website is Pinterest, and building your brand with dedicated Pinterest pages for brand sites is helping brands by pinning the most popular pins on the home page.  Great content marketing is getting your images pinned by others and shared across the network....with a link back to your website of course. The greatest thing for Pin users is your trending content filters to the top, helping brands realize what their greatest content is by people helping surface their content by their pinning actions.  By far, Pinterest helps people express what they have a passion for.  If your business has products where its visuals are a great attribute, then Pinterest could be a better social network to be investing time with than other social media networks.  Is Pinterest a success for you already, or do you think with some guidance you would give it a try?

Michael Kristiansen's insight:

You may like to just know what content curation is and better still, what is the benefit to my business.  The article is aimed at what big businesses do to manage content within a management system.  All that shows is big business is paying attention because of understanding the relationship of high value content and increased web traffic.

For my clients, who are small to medium businesses, they have SEO on their minds as the solution to being found through search engines.  So,  explaining content marketing as an important SEO solution answers their WTF is it questions.  When I ask, 'Do you think if web visitors increased their time on your website and visited more webpages, that woud help your sales objectives?', the answers are in the affirmative, and the content management of production, curation, syndication is accepted right along with the basic SEO activities of webpage optimization.  Rather than get into the nuts and bolts, my responsibility is to take care of all that and free up a  business client's time to manage their business.

Last night, a client asked me to sit in on a meeting with a new prospect and ask the question, how did you find the business.  The answer was, 'I searched for video production companies on Google and you were #1'.  That was great to know, five months earlier, my client was missing meta title and descriptions.  I added those over a couple of months, and less than a month ago started posting curated content on my client's blog, using in the tags, the very keyword phrase the prospect found my client with.  The power of content marketing, syndication, and basic SEO all came together to help my client overcome stiff competition that for years had kept him off of the first page of search.  I share this with you to help you understand that delivering high value content, your visitors will spend more time on your site which is far more important than click through traffic that leaves in the first 30 seconds and never comes back.

Do you prefer learning how to do content marketing right, and delegate to in-house staff to free up your time?  Or,  would you like to outsource by putting the work in our most capable hands?

Is This the Top Content Marketing Company in the World? - Jeffbullas's Blog

Is This the Top Content Marketing Company in the World? - Jeffbullas's Blog | Buyer Traffic Generation | Content & Video Marketing | SEO | Scoop.it
The rise of content marketing means we must all become publishers. How do we do that well and what is the top content marketing company on the planet?
Michael Kristiansen's insight:

This is a wonderful piece by Jeff Bullas who first goes through the challenges of becoming new media savvy.  The pic above depicts the stages of content marketing.  It is described more in detail than the simplified explanation of the difference between push and pull marketing. Every business is at one stage or another.  The companies having success with content marketing are running full speed at delivering high value content that comes across as educational, entertaining and engaging.  Documentary content used to be the most trusted content based on the author's qualifications.  Now, we have the crowd contributing content and policing itself.  Corroboration is just as important as collaboration.
Now video marketing delivers the most impactful content and leaves a brief trail to proof of fact in tiny print or in the credits that fly by at the end.  So reputation matters whether the source of the content gets a pass.

The most successful at the game of content marketing are companies that become a power media company that just so happens to sell a product.  That is a laudable goal to get past the 'selling' and into learning to entertain first, create conversations around the brand, and monetising the content.  To succeed at this level takes focusing on high value content and separating from all other distractions.  The 'be everywhere' focus means owning the online world, and being in the physical world, making mobile a critically important area to dominate in.
