The immediacy of purchasing decisions have a lot to do with where the buyer is at the moment of searching for a product or service on a mobile device.  So content marketing must take mobile delivery seriously.  Proximity is likely to be driving the sales.  Is imperative to have a very simplified sales system in place to close the deals.  That spells 'mobile friendly', a site that loads in a second or less and is totally focused on easy usability.  One thing pointed out that makes a big difference is having local address and contact information readily available without making people search for it.  

I'm a big user of voice search, and many people find it simpler than typing anything into a tiny keypad.  That means conversational search is important to mobile SEO.

Ok, going back to one column for status messages and bringing back a left sidebar column simplifies.  Plus making photos larger in the Newsfeed sounds good too, content marketing with large photos and videos should be great.  Some business info in the left sidebar and four links under the cover photo for Timeline, About, Photos, Videos, and More.  The Thumbnail links are apparently GONE.  So, does that put your FB landing pages under the More link?  Can't tell you.  I assume FB would not strand millions of business fan pages that were connected through the thumbnails.....?   It's already not very good access to tabbed pages, and direct links would only work part of the time.  If fan page tabs are going to be under the More link, then the Pages will have been trivialized further.  Let's hope businesses get a better deal than the way it's shaping up for the future.  It's been looking better and better to optimize and build Circles for business pages on Google+.

Yahoo made an astute investment in buying Tumblr a while back, and the Tumblr culture has continued to enhance contributed content all through their platform.  Being topic oriented, it's very easy to find people sharing the same interests also sharing highly relevant content.  The biggest trend has been the high interest in video, having about the same open rates of watched videos as Facebook.  It's turning out to be a great platform for brands to establish themselves, and video is the most effective way to get a clear message out and shared.  One can double their chances of going viral simply by including Tumblr in their video marketing strategy, along with YouTube, Facebook, and for direct search, Google and others.

There's a lot of emphasis on organic search from attaining search ranking.  As important at that may be, developing traffic from other sources is more important.  As an example, my main website, http://netmorenow.com receives only 20% of traffic from organic search.  The same amount of traffic comes from LinkedIn and Twitter alone.  Social networks are very important to reach your targeted audience.  When a good percentage of visitors come directly from typing in your url, consider yourself on a very good track as branding goes.  

Of course not much can improve if you are producing content for search engines instead of your target audience.  There's a lot of numbers thrown around in the article, however Google Analytics can tell you a lot about what content is attracting the most interest.  You can also see your sources, whether most all is from search or you're getting play with social networks.

The most difficult challenge for website owners is producing content that is consistently of high value.  Net More Now solves this problem for business owners affordably by curating content that is already trending with massive interest.  Mixing curated content with some original helps the original content gain authority sooner than later.  The overall results is more traffic, visitors entering the site from different pages and time spent on the site.  Before a visitor ever becomes a paying customer or client, they check you out first, see if your online reputation is solid.  Visitors look for answers, if your site has the answers, you're likely to build trust and authority over time with visitors.  That simply leads to building a relationship first, and buying your solutions to their problems follows.

The types of content marketing I engage in for clients is in video production that delivers impact and viewers taking some type of action requested.  You could call it vlogging, but since I curate content and publish to blogs and social networks, I'm still sticking with blogging as the choice of marketing strategy that has remained effective for building traffic and SEO that supports a main website.  This is a great explanation of how copywriting is a critical ingredient in the recipe of content marketing.  Just like a tasty cake, content marketing is meant to deliver tasty, high valued content readers and viewers are fond of finding and consuming.  

The first strategy listed is brilliant, it came up in a conversation about a potential client's website and how it completely was missing any emotional trigger to cause a visitor to engage with the business.

It's funny, today I came across a website built entirely of headlines that carried an emotional hook that featured pictures and the story.  The site  is in the top 300 sites in the world.  The headlines grabbed your attention by capitalizing on human curiosity and evoking emotions.  The recipe is to plant the hook, engage the visitor, create impact, then motivate, and lastly retain the visitor.  It's simple and brilliant when you get each part right.

Adapting to constant change, it's though the battlefield of winning the hearts and minds of consumers keeps moving and evolving.  You'd be right to think so.  What I like about this being said, is it tells business to be flexible and proactive.  When something works that creates higher interest and sales,  you would think to sign off on long term contracts to drive down costs while ensuring a steady flow of prospects who convert to customers.  The winning strategy is to be proactive, seeking out and testing trends that are evolving.  For example, if you kept advertising on Facebook when your audience of younger people have moved on to mobile apps and popularized sites like Instagram, your results would be on the decline.  It's the reason Facebook and other giants buy out the up and comers.  Otherwise, their business model begins to fall behind.

Because my clients are small to medium companies, trying to be active in every major social media network leads to spreading their resources too thin.  It's better to fully develop one network that best fits your demographics and keep a visible profile in others.  Once one network is producing results, then resources can be allocated to build up the next best social network's presence.  

Being diverse all at once can simply lead to diverting scarce resources that should have been applied to the most probable area where success comes first.  Then build out and become successfully diverse.

This is where the rubber hits the road.  It is one thing to educate what content marketing is, what it does to increase business....and the heavy lifting.  Yesterday, I had the off chance of getting into a Tesla roadster and experiencing what real acceleration is.  I must tell you it goes beyond wow and the memory lasts.  If you can deliver content at an accelerated pace that has the wow factor, and lasts in one's memory, then you have a content marketing system that delivers results better and faster than anything else.  The key to that ingenuity and pace of publishing every day of the week is writing insight pieces to tell your audience why you are sharing a piece of content you've just curated.  The steps taken after publishing such as syndicating to social platforms can be automated, however pushing the content further is to distribute through email outreach and direct promotion.  Valuable content produced by curating or writing all original is the first part.  Distribution is the second part that makes high value content marketing effective.

What do you think will change with smartphones able to receive information from physical sensors near you? Content marketers could now deliver in real time, valuable information to influence a purchase decision.  In store shopping could be full of interaction and engagement via your phone.  I for one would like to know where the closest open parking spot is, or one is opening up nearest me. There is an app in beta testing that will tell you where things are in  major grocery stores, now it's going to be possible to deliver me a discount for purchasing today.  

The uses of iBeacon, Apple's version, is being experimented with at Citi Field in Queens, New York.  From providing a video about the place, to delivering hot dog coupons, to probably guide you to your seat, are ways micro location technology can be used for delivering high value content at the point it's most useful.

There are endless uses for content marketing purposes that rely on the one most important attribute, that is increasing engagement with content that is most useful at the location it is delivered.

When I think of shopping for groceries and non perishables, it is not anything I look forward to doing in the first place, it's a necessary chore, like pulling weeds (which I look at as forced exercise).  Now, I am seriously looking at joining http://myfreedomshopper.com so I can purchase online in a fraction of the time, spend nothing on gas, and have my shopping order delivered with a ten percent discount.  Perhaps I will enjoy receiving relevant content at a ball game and not miss it at all in the grocery store or Walmart or Target or.......

Gaining attention for your business website is a lot of times made easier with tools, software or plugins that automate some repetitive functions, or update your site in some way.  Problems appear when that free marketing tool is not really free and you decide the benefit is not worth the cost of upgrading.  First problem is it was supposed to leverage your time and it doesn't.  Second problem could develop by trying to delete the software, and it deletes something another program uses.  


Now, there are truly free tools well worth getting familiar with such as Google Scholar for content research.  Or, Moz's Open Site Explorer to help discover linking opportunities and who your competition is linking to.


Other 'free tools' come with subscription forms in order to access the tool.  Hubspot is very good at this, providing great headlines for white papers and tools that are helpful to site owners and web developers while helping to establish an authoritative relationship at the same time.  For instance, their ideation tool Blog Topic Generator.  Certainly helpful if you're running out of what to talk about.  However, Portent's Content Idea Generator may return something more creative to talk about. Besides, it's fun.


Another relationship building tool Internet Marketing Ninjas offer, is an onpage optimization tool.  There are quite a few more 'free' marketing tools that really help gather useful information to implement into your content marketing strategy.

Balancing what a search engine deems important and what readers will immediately respond to starts with your Title and Headlines.  Though H1 tags aren't mentioned, they follow the same balance between users and search.  Emotional titles draw interest, and so does high curiosity.  The top ten list is a favorite device for titles and letting readers know, they're in for a treat that can save time and inform.  The versus strategy is very much a comparison type of title meant to evoke the question of 'which is better' if you as a source are to be trusted.  I like how to guides as there's more thought that goes into the process of organizing information into a usable package.  And, comparisons can be for multiple products or services, a great device for setting yourself up as an authority and judge based on the work you've put into the content.  These are basic tools in a blogger's tool chest that help with the content production structure.  It still comes down to evoking an emotional trigger and matching well with search engines.

A couple of years ago now, LinkedIn bought SlideShare , an incredible high authority site for content marketing publishers to display high value content.  Now, Bright.com is acquired for a very importance that reaches into the core of LinkedIn's business model, that is being the top site for finding jobs and recruiters screening for talent.  What Bright.com brings, is technology that is the very best at matching individuals with the kind of jobs they are likely to excel in for employers and the individual.  How LinkedIn will roll this out, my guess it could be monetized as a critical tool that recruiters would find very beneficial and willing to subscribe to.  It's interesting how improving the use of big data keeps spinning off valuable uses, like this one that could help the overall economy by helping households and employers match up best for each other.  One of the problems is employers are having difficulty finding qualified personnel while qualified people are seeing their resumes getting overlooked.

This has an audio with the transcript to follow.  Why I want share this with you and all my clients is because the concept of treating your business online as a media company means more value is added to your business everyday.  The bottom line is owning your own media means owning the intellectual property rights.  As an asset, this approach adds the possibility of licensing your content.  The example of having a business page on Facebook as the destination page for your business is like being a sharecropper.  Facebook has made it so you have to pay to reach all of your own fans.  They control the spigot.  Having a presence on Facebook is important for drawing fans to your owned web assets and building your own list of subscribers.  

A very successful  business that has become a media company is Red Bull.  They are producing great videos that show a lifestyle that identifies with their product.  

It takes organizing and developing stories that support your product or service. Great stories get shared and stick, while marketing and advertising has a shorter shelf life. Think longer term like P&G did and like Red Bull is doing now.

Mastering emotional marketing would be like writing your own check, if all you do is spread happiness and everyone in the world shared it. Funny the part about happy babies and puppies in toilet paper commercials.  The research proves we all get a release of oxytocin viewing the happy scenes, and it triggers trust for the brand, and that equates to more sales.  Do you fee manipulated yet?  Well the science of emotion in marketing does help advertisers develop content that drives up response and sharing the content.


Take another emotion, that of fear or surprise that makes us prone to anxiety, even depression.  These emotions have us wanting something to cling to, like hope.  Now, isn't that perfect situation to approach people and ask to donate.  Fear can certainly be used to scare the daylights out of us, that's when we look for someone to share the experience with, kind of like bonding to others for 'strength in numbers'. Now, if no one is there to bond to, maybe there's a brand product that will gain a heightened emotional attachment to.

Well it's amazing what a little anger in a piece of content will do, it has people digging in their heels and becoming pretty stubborn about the opinions they've just drawn.  This seems to be the province of the New York Times who get more response when there's just a little anger in their content.  Amazing isn't it?

Deep Compassion?  It may be possible to get all these elements in a short video, but focus and clarity of the message is likely to get mashed up.  Choosing to jump on a trend seems a no brainer, if it was that easy, every business could expand their brand by copying trends.  

Video production and the video marketing strategies that follows would need to inject a fair amount of creativity to make their interpretation of a going trend worth watching.  A knock off of an original is not appreciated as much as grabbing hold of the original and interpreting it with your own creativity works.

Of course it does.  It's a fact we all love stories, so using your supporting data to tell a very human story works very well in positioning a product or service as wonderful solutions that can work wonders from them as well.  With large data, it's far better to present through visualization because it's far more effective because the way our brains work.  When the narrative structure is in place, the focus on visual presentation should be designed to bring clarity and the story to life.

As your story comes together, simplicity  is very important to strive for, otherwise the risk of information overload could take over.  There's a beautiful line that sums it up: 'Play to their eyes with the visuals and their minds with the facts....without overstimulating'.

Probably the most costly mistake is not developing your clients or customers into sales ambassadors for your business.  The truism in word of mouth marketing is hearing an endorsement from someone you know and trust about a product or service you're considering, is the best sales lead you can get.  It can be as simple as asking for referrals and permission to mention the referrer's name.  Incentivizing in a way that awards a current customer for referring a new customer is also an opportunity to make an offer to upsell the current customer as well. 

How you stay in touch, the frequency of touching customers needs to be in a very acceptable format and timing.  As the article poses, some businesses have long periods between sales or don't expect repeat sales.  This does not preclude asking for their testimonial, and a very nice thank you incentive for recommending a friend who buys the service or product.  It is amazing that business owners generally have no strategy to help build their reputation by making it easy for customers to leave kind words on Yelp or Google+, two of the most influential sites that have reviews.  It's all in the asking and making it very simple for someone to give kudos for your performance.

It still amazes me that Google Images puts an easily missed disclaimer about legal use of images they have lifted from sites worldwide and published.  It does give the impression that it's a free for all, after all, it has been for them.  Who's going to challenge their commercial use of photos without express permission.  By virtue of building the largest gallery of images for the public to see, is it not beneficial to their commercial interest in attracting the most traffic?  Isn't it why they practically bury their disclaimer and warnings to go hunt down rights to images?  Ever wonder how Google can build an image search engine and pretty much fail at search for the image rights that go along with the image?  Yes, you can dig out the rights sometimes on your own by following the image back to it's original source.  Sometimes.

The mention that iTunes has done a lot to expand the market for podcasting says a lot.  Competitors such as iHeart Radio have added podcasting, their version is iHeart Talk.  What is promising about marketing your business this way, is a personality can become known, and the threshold for attracting ad sponsors is only 10,000 listeners.  The reason is the listeners are much more devoted and if the podcaster reads the ad copy, there is a much higher conversion to listeners becoming buyers.  The figure quoted is that 54% of listeners have made purchases.


Podcasting is certainly a powerful way to do content marketing that drives traffic to your website for more connection to your brand. 


It is not an easy thing to start and keep up with, a regular schedule that engages people.  If you are going to start up your own podcast, you can do it with very little money, however, if you want the audio to sound the best, it's a good idea to invest in top equipment.


My suggestion to starting up would be to use a USB headset, and Skype to interview guests.  Pretty May is an inexpensive software that allows you to record the conversation.  Of course it makes no sense to start doing podcasts without first subscribing to a few to understand how successful podcasters organize their content and their delivery style.

You've probably seen listings rich with more information and wondered how to do that for your own site.  What I can share with you is a plugin that helps you do it right and helps you avoid doing it  in a way that search engines determine you are spamming them.  Just follow the plugin instructions and there's no benefit to trying to be tricky about it.  Give readers what they want works for search engines and for your business.  Sometimes called micro data and schema, see http://schema.org and you'll see the main purpose is to provide greater information to searchers in the listing.  When done correctly, it at least helps your listing stand out even if it's down a little on the first page.

The top trend as you probably know is video optimized for mobile devices, however this is really a top 5 list of video production techniques that make content marketing standout with video that is fantastic looking in order to entertain and attract more viewers.

The first is using slow motion to make a scene standout, where more details are taken in by viewers.  

To make a scene more engaging and accentuate its meaning, the slider technique keeps the lens moving in a way that glides evenly throughout the shot.

Steady cameras using a gyroscope makes it possible to show people in action and brings the viewers into the middle of the action.  A  favorite action camera is the GoPro, able to show the action from the person doing the activity, whether that's skiing, skydiving, hand gliding, you name it.

Since the price of a small drone has become affordable, getting awesome aerial film footage has made it faster and easier to capture the fantastic shot that grabs everyone's attention.  

Then there's post production where the magic of color correction and other edits, makes for an outstanding product.


We can expect to see more mobile video for sure, email video marketing where the videos can be embedded and the how-to videos will always draw an audience ready and willing to learn.

Very well written strategies for getting press for your business is hard to find.  It is practical and easier to have a system set up that reaches the right publications for what you have the best chance of getting published.  I thought it interesting that journalists would go look first at who else has published anything about you before deciding to look at the worthiness of publishing your press release.  My take on this is to follow the 'Hacker's Guide to Getting Press even though there's some work involved.  The work is made easier by the tools suggested to use.  One tool I found worth using is a video press release from a company that takes your release and reads it on camera.  The video and transcript are then distributed to online news organizations, and syndicating to social networks will help a lot.  Even YouTube and Google may give it a decent ranking. 

I think the profiling of publishers is important so that your content gets submitted to people already interested in your niche.   The resources for building a significant list are blog ranking sites like Alltop.  By using the Scraper Chrome Extension you can quickly build a list.  Also a site called Customer Development Labs  works very well pulling information out of Google News.

A very good reminder to ask yourself about the content of your press release is to ask, is it interesting enough that people just like yourself would be interested in reading it.

Once your list is in shape, a press kit needs to be put together that has a company overview, founder pics, logos, press mentions, screenshots of products or representations of services offered.

It can take time to gather emails from websites, so a resource to subscribe to is Buzzstream  Now, the rest is reaching out and following up.  One thing I see is it really is smart to keep the first inquiry really short.  Once the right person says yes, send me your info (press kit) you are at the start of building a good relationship and getting published.  The advice to start at at the bottom will help build up press that others will see that you're worthy of their publication, given the content is highly relevant to their audience.
