Michael Kristiansen's insight:

Of course it does.  It's a fact we all love stories, so using your supporting data to tell a very human story works very well in positioning a product or service as wonderful solutions that can work wonders from them as well.  With large data, it's far better to present through visualization because it's far more effective because the way our brains work.  When the narrative structure is in place, the focus on visual presentation should be designed to bring clarity and the story to life.

As your story comes together, simplicity  is very important to strive for, otherwise the risk of information overload could take over.  There's a beautiful line that sums it up: 'Play to their eyes with the visuals and their minds with the facts....without overstimulating'.

Using social psychology to enhance your digital storytelling is essential to succeed as a writer online. Find out how to implement it here.
Michael Kristiansen's insight:

It is so true that how a story is told is as important as what is being said, so telling stories to convey a lesson, an experience others have had with a product or service trumps stating facts that are not retained and have no emotional pull towards why the listener would want to act after hearing the story.

I was told in a sales meetting for a solar installation company to look for solutions to help people decide to install solar.   One gentleman who had the lowest energy bill I'd ever seen, was a very patriotic American with his own stories to tell.  Instead of me laying out a story, I listened and was able to easily explain how solar was a patriotic investment that would last for decades, he bought without concern over a very long return on investment.

In selling solar systems, I went out to see a man building his own house, he walked me into the dining room that had only concrete floors and explained that he could not make the solar investment because he did not have the money for putting in the flooring.  I asked if he filed quarterly returns, then asked if I got him the cash to put in solar and get him the money he needed to put in his flooring do we have a deal.  The solar water system was installed, he had his flooring and he was able to take his tax credit on a quarterly basis.  The water savings over the next few years bought him is flooring.  This story encouraged others on the team to think out of the box and truly help provide the right solution.  Stories sell.
