Doing Content Marketing? Why Some Companies Will Never Win At It

Doing Content Marketing? Why Some Companies Will Never Win At It | Bussines Improvement and Social media | Scoop.it
Successful content marketing requires a fundamental shift in thinking about how you communicate with consumers—and how your brand serves them.

Karen Dietz's curator insight, April 16, 6:10 PM

This article is short and sweet but packs a punch. The author Ross Crooks explains quite clearly how an old school approach to content marketing will bring disaster. If you are using content as advertising and view the customer as a means to sell rather than an audience to attract, success is going to be elusive. Or not sustainable.

I like the tactics given here: be real, do good, give first then ask. Each point made has solid additional insights for you. And the examples shared are good too.

Of course, I'll add a fourth tactic: the way to get the first three done is to share your authentic stories. Please don't forget that. If you do, your content will be dry and boring and not produce the results you want.

Marketing and branding has been changing over the past few years from messaging (push technology) to storytelling (pull technology). It's not easy to make that shift. And as I review the kinds of stories businesses are sharing these days, it's hard to find examples of companies doing it well.

So I will periodically keep curating articles like this one so we can all get our heads on straight about the new marketing landscape, and continue with better storytelling. Enjoy this one!

How I Became The Most Followed Nobody In Finland via @JaanaNystrom

How I Became The Most Followed Nobody In Finland via @JaanaNystrom | Bussines Improvement and Social media | Scoop.it

@Jaana Nyström is a great curator and she just beat me to the punch :). When she shared her EPIC journey of using G+ to move from "nobody" to "somebody" I planned to blog about her amazing journey. The content and message was too good to be trapped in comments.

Read this post CAREFULLY as you may recognize where you are on Jaana's timeline of personal brand development. There are several "inside baseball" tips to pay particular attention to including:

* Don't worry about perfection, start publishing.
* G+ is an AMAZING and vastly under used tool (start there add more social nets later).
* No matter what, keep turning the crank (keep going) since the only sin you and your personal band can't recover from is NOT PLAYING.

Great stuff from an amazing curator. What lessons did you learn from Jaana Nystrom? What similar lessons have you learned as you create a meaningful personal brand?

Managing the extended workforce: A skills strategy for business agility

Managing the extended workforce: A skills strategy for business agility | Bussines Improvement and Social media | Scoop.it

Today’s “extended workforce” includes a mix of internal and external people. That talent strategy can keep organizations nimble in response to rapidly changing skills needs, but such a workforce also needs to be managed in new ways.

Kenneth Mikkelsen's curator insight, April 11, 4:26 AM

For many organizations, a workforce is comprised of a mix of internal and external people. Recent Accenture analysis of this “extended workforce” finds that external workers, equipped with project-specific skills, are enabling organizations to seize marketplace opportunities faster, with more agility. To manage this extended workforce effectively, companies must create new organizational structures, facilitate interaction and collaboration among all workforce types, and integrate talent-related processes and systems.

Interest-based content curation was only a vision 2 years ago when we launched: in a post Web 2.0 world, we felt that more and more we are the content we publish. Whether we liked it or not, we would all need to become media - a problem for busy professionals who don’t have time or inspiration for that and whose primary expertise is often not to be a content publisher. MyKLogica's curator insight, March 21, 2:07 PM

Personally I call them differently as content "management" and "curation"; as though with management we haven´t the added value of the personal point of view of the curator, still it is a great job to find and select good, quality content.
