10 Rules For Writing A Compelling 'About Me' Page

10 Rules For Writing A Compelling 'About Me' Page | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

The advice from this post will give you some interesting insights to know how to write a compelling 'about me' page and bio for your website and online profiles. [mg]

Writing the perfect pitch and crafting a compelling bio is difficult. That’s why whole industries exist to enable us to tell our stories better. Copywriters, creative directors and brand strategists like me wouldn’t exist if it was easy to articulate the essence of what we do, and communicate how and why we do it.

There’s no way around it, you need to spend some serious time and energy on your about page, because it’s probably one of the most visited pages on your website.

9 Steps to Write Your Ultimate Home Page Headline

This post do not talking gimmicks. It not talking overhyped promises. It talking about a logical approach to writing headlines that will actually take you from [cliché alert] zero to hero in exactly 9 steps... yes that's it [note mg]

A mere 6 to 12 words stand between you and a lower bounce rate.

A mere 6 to 12 words stand between you and a higher click-thru rate, a higher task completion rate, and even a higher conversion rate.

What are these 6 to 12 words? They’re the words that comprise your home page headline. David Ogilvy told us that 5 times as many people read the headline as the body copy. Robert Stone taught the same. So did Eugene Schwartz and Gary Bencivenga – both insanely brilliant marketers. A/B testers prove time and again that headlines are critical, as this headline test, which resulted in a 10.4% lift in conversion, showed. And every direct response and CRO copywriter has found this to be true: the first headline your visitor sees is the most important copy you’ll write.

How to Buy and Sell a Website or Blog, Example Contract Included

How to Buy and Sell a Website or Blog, Example Contract Included | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

I’ve bought (and sold) many websites in my history as an entrepreneur and blogger for many different reasons. For some I was simply interested in the IP (intellectual property) that could be used to bolster some existing sites while others were loss-experiments (experiments where I was certain I’d “lose” financially) while others were intended to be improved and sold (or “flipped”).

The last reason I’ve done this was to actually build a business and sustain it as a significant source of income. Those purchases are much more rare and take a lot of thought and preparation but when done can become very profitable long-term.

The challenge, naturally, is to know what domain and website/blog to purchase and whether or not it’s going to be a good investment based on your needs and your personal goals...

99 Ways to Build Links by Giving Stuff Away (and Improve Your Brand Too)

99 Ways to Build Links by Giving Stuff Away (and Improve Your Brand Too) | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

In my last post I explained why free stuff is link building gold, and in this update I'm giving you 99 actionable ways to gain links by giving stuff away. By the end you'll have a ton of link building ideas, some of which I hope will be new to you. This is a springboard for new ideas, so I hope this 99 can become many more, so please leave your comments and help grow this list.

These ideas come from methods I've seen customers use to get free stuff in researching the Free Stuff Everyday book, and also ideas we've used for clients at Koozai. In short there's nothing below that can't be sourced to the real world, so please give every idea a chance.

These ideas focus on getting increased chatter about your brand online, with the logic that when people are talking about your brand they are likely linking to it as well. If you find there is a lot of brand chatter without any links, you can always use brand monitoring tools to track your mentions, and then followup to ask for a link...

How to Buy a Website » Techipedia | Tamar Weinberg | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

Why Buy?

Like Patrick, anyone who’s tried starting a site from scratch will know first-hand how much work it can be to attract and retain an audience. It’s typically a relentless slog of design, content generation, social media engagement, backlinking, and analysis – with the overriding risk that it will all amount to naught.

By buying instead, you can get a proven website where you can focus on growing the site rather than getting than initial traction.

A number of SEO pros are also starting to buy websites based on the keywords they rank for, or the Twitter and Facebook accounts that are attached to the sites.

The steps below provide a high-level view of the sorts of things website buyers consider when buying a website.

Blog Smarter: A Step-by-step Strategy to Boost Your AdSense Earnings

Blog Smarter: A Step-by-step Strategy to Boost Your AdSense Earnings | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

Perhaps you would like to cover your operating costs of your blog and / or website. Revenues generated by Adsense can be an interesting solution. If you want to start, this article will give you useful information to do so. [note mg]

Let’s start with a question: What’s the single most important factor when it comes to making money with Google AdSense?

It’s organic traffic (i.e. traffic from Google and other search engines).

Here’s a simple example to illustrate the point. Suppose you have an online forum which receives 500,000 unique visitors per month, but 100% of those are coming directly to the forum, either by a bookmark or by typing the URL on their browsers, because they are already regular members. The second website is a niche site that receives only 250,000 unique visitors per month, but 80% of those are coming from search engines, while the remaining 20% are coming from referring sites. Despite the huge different in traffic levels, if both sites started using Google AdSense the niche, one would earn a lot more (I wouldn’t be surprised if it would be five or even ten times more).

How come?

Are You Making These 7 Mistakes with Your About Page? | Copyblogger

Are You Making These 7 Mistakes with Your About Page? | Copyblogger | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

About Pages really aren't that complicated. So why are most of them so horrible? Quick ... read this, then go fix yours... A great idea, maybe I should do it! [note MG]

Does thinking about it make you stumble and sweat?

Have you put it off, because you’re worried it will suck?

You’re not alone — lots of website owners have an easier time proposing marriage than they do writing a solid About Page.

If that’s you, you’re probably overcomplicating things. A good About Page is simple, straightforward, and it communicates just a few key things.

But just because they’re simple doesn’t mean people don’t screw them up.

There are certain mistakes that I see again and again, on sites that deserve better. These mistakes are easy to fix and they’re pushing away the people you want to bring closer: your wonderful website readers.

Proving Trust on the Web

Proving Trust on the Web | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

For those of us who've been deep in the trenches of online marketing for years, the question of who to trust may seem inane. We've all gravitated to sources of one variety or another, and probably built up a few favorites based on past experience. I've shared some of my selected sources in the past and I (consciously and subconsciously) bias toward trusting news and advice from those over others.

But for those new to the field of web analytics, social media marketing, SEO or a myriad of other practices, it's a true challenge. Case in point, a Q+A question from earlier today:

How do you know what is junk information vs what is truly good SEO advice? Is it just simply trial and error? It seems to me that if people find truly good SEO information, they aren't going to be sharing it so easily. It's the whole, "You get what you pay for".

5 Steps to Tracking and Monetizing Your Website Conversions | Content Marketing Institute | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

How many of you have at least one “goal” set up within your account to track your conversions?

How many of you have a monetary value or “goal value” attached to that conversion goal?

I’d like to show you a basic method for adjusting your Google Analytics settings so that you can start answering the following:

- Is my website content driving conversions?
- Which pages in those conversion paths are not “getting it done”?
- How much is a conversion actually worth… in dollars?
- Which inbound marketing activities are delivering quality traffic that converts?
- Which social networks are driving conversions?
- Key question — How much more marketing budget can I ask for next year based on how well I made the connection between online marketing and revenue?...
