Check Out The Insane Lengths Zappos Customer Service Reps Will Go To

Check Out The Insane Lengths Zappos Customer Service Reps Will Go To | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

An interesting success and perhaps some ideas for improving your service or approach. As we can see, the possibilities are limitless [note Martin Gysler].

Everyone knows what it's like calling a company's customer service department: If you're unlucky, you're routed to Asia where an outsourced staff member reads a script in halting English.

Online retailer Zappos, by contrast, has 500 employees in a call center in Las Vegas who have all received seven weeks of training on how to make customers happy. The company (now a unit of Amazon) has been called "insane" and "fanatical" for the way it will do anything to please its customers. The stories are legendary, and are a key part of its brand:

  • In 2011, Zappos sent flowers to a woman who ordered six different pairs of shoes because her feet were damaged by harsh medical treatments.

14 Signs That You Are Failing at Facebook Marketing

14 Signs That You Are Failing at Facebook Marketing | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

I have compiled a list of all the activities that I think are considered as Facebook marketing gone wrong or in other words – facepalms. To make matters more interesting, I’ve added +2 points to each item on the list. The logic behind that is that the more points you have, the more you fail at Facebook. Add them up and see how you stand!

1. Your fanpage doesn’t have a vanity url. Instead, the web address of your Facebook fan page consists of random numbers. If that’s the case, you won’t be able to successfully establish a link between offline and online marketing...

With all the innovative online technologies out there, it’s easy to feel tempted to rush into things. Please, for the love of your business, slow down.

Before you worry about launching a Twitter channel or pitching a post idea to a local blogger, you need to take a step back and consider how online conversations might impact the reputation of your small business. PR blow-ups aren’t just a problem for big companies—there are risks for small businesses, too. How a Blog Can Help Grow Your Offline Business

How a Blog Can Help Grow Your Offline Business | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

I’ve been both an avid blogger and a huge advocate for blogging for many years now. But until recently I’ve never had any personal “success” to be able to back up my claims that blogging isn’t just an excellent pastime, it’s also a tremendously useful business resource.

Sure, it’s easy to point people to the likes of ProBlogger as a testament to the power of blogging when answering the question “why have a blog?” but I’ve always struggled to relate any major achievements of my own as further proof to my assertions.

Until now.

5 Ways to Sell Your Expertise Online

5 Ways to Sell Your Expertise Online | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it
As a small business owner or entrepreneur, the lessons you learn are valuable.

November 23, 2010
As a small business owner or entrepreneur, the lessons you learn are valuable. Not only will those lessons help you succeed in your core business, but that expertise has value for your peers. Sharing your expertise and becoming a thought leader in your industry can help you to attract new customers and develop lucrative, long-term business relationships.

Beyond that, however, your expertise can also be utilized as a separate revenue stream in its own right. In 2008, the folks at software company 37signals announced that they had turned their expertise into revenue streams worth more than three quarters of a million dollars in just a couple of years. Here are five ways that you can follow in their footsteps and leverage your existing expertise too...

10 Steps to Successful Social Networking

10 Steps to Successful Social Networking | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

[ For practical reasons, I decided to integrate the contributions from the "SOCIAL NETWORKING skills" topic here - 01-27-2012 ]  Martin Gysler

Networking is about meeting and building relationships with people for a purpose. It’s that last part that counts in the definition, the purposeful part. Otherwise we’re all just socializing, which is what much of it amounts to anyway because if you don’t know your purpose, it’s pretty difficult to achieve it.

That’s fine if you just enjoy socializing for the sake of socializing (and, actually, the best social networkers are people like that usually). However, if you’re spending marketing dollars and the prosperity of your business depends on the success of your social networking, you’d better do a bit more than socialize.

1. The Question You’d Better Answer First
Why are you interested in social networking? To build your business? How, exactly?Do you sell online or just promote online? Are you locally, nationally, or internationally focused? Do you want people to talk about your business online, share your links, spread the word about you, learn more about you, recommend you, sign up for a program, get a free sample, get your e-newsletter, read your blog, interact with you, ask questions, get a membership, order a product, pay for a service, refer you to their friends?

Why Learning Entrepreneurship is Essential for Online Marketers

Why Learning Entrepreneurship is Essential for Online Marketers | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

Let’s face it – the goal of many online marketers is to make more money. Some marketers build and leverage relationships to get noticed, some use automation tactics, some throw truckloads of money at advertising, and some people give away stuff. All of these actions have one premise – to make more money.

What if you discovered a few traits that would help you make even more money? What if marketing suddenly became easier? Then your world would become more beautiful, right?

You can then finally buy that big house or nice car you’ve been longing for. Or maybe you can finally go off to the Bahamas and disappear for a while. Or maybe you can donate a large sum of cash to a charity. Whatever it is that you are after, the solution is right in front of you.

Make Money Locally—and Globally—Through Your Blog

Make Money Locally—and Globally—Through Your Blog | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

Our blog is less than a year old.

We started Firepole Marketing less than a year ago, and we’ve done pretty well with it over that time. A lot of people know who we are, and what we do.

I’ve even been dubbed the Freddy Krueger of Blogging.

And while we’re not at the scale of a major site like Copyblogger, we still do pretty well, to the point that we make a decent amount of money online, and occasionally even help others to do the same.

We aren’t the only ones to have done that, and I remember that a year ago, when I saw others make the same sort of claim, I always wanted more information. I wanted to know how much money they were really making, and where that money was coming from...

How To Protect Your Business

How To Protect Your Business | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

“The strange thing is that everyday, we see people dying – but don’t actually believe we will.” – Anonymous

We read about it in the newspapers. We hear it on the news. We see it on television. Sudden, unexpected death. Caused by accidents, disasters, and disease.

Yet until it strikes close to home, we tend to filter it out through a “can’t happen to us” filter, which keeps uncomfortable news at arms’ length. But closing your eyes and burying your head in the sand like an ostrich is not always a good business strategy!

So, as uncomfortable as it may be, I’m going to talk today about how to disaster-proof your online business.

The Powerful Effects Of Community Development To Reach Your Online Business Goals

The Powerful Effects Of Community Development To Reach Your Online Business Goals | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

What it is, what it does and how it can force your branding to go viral!

The idea of community in business has taken top billing in recent years due in large part to the obvious growth of social networks and the community aspect they foster. John Jantsch has some insightful information into this here at Duct Tape Marketing.com as does Jeff Kubina via Flickr.

Organizations fortunate enough to have forward thinking CEOs and marketing departments have even added the role of Community Manager to the org chart.

It’s time for every business, regardless of size, to take note and add this function to their organization. Not because it’s the hot trendy thing to do – because it will change the way your think about growing your business...

One of the least expensive items to sell online is your expertise. You already have have it, there are likely folks who want it and, perhaps most importantly, you have a great way to deliver it via the Internet.

Or do you? Delivery of expertise online, especially if you want to get paid for it, is one of the trickier roadblocks that face infopreneurs, folks like you who want to package and sell knowledge and know-how...
