Biggest Mistakes Brands Make in Facebook Marketing | Entrepreneur Blog | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it
While Facebook can absolutely help build your brand awareness, you need to learn to avoid some of the most common mistakes.

Facebook marketing is on the rise among businesses of all sizes today but still far too many struggle with the basics. There are many who have a hard time even getting a page set up and others who don’t understand what they are supposed to post on their page. While Facebook can absolutely help build your brand awareness, you need to learn to avoid some of the most common mistakes. Learn them, avoid them and rock on with a popular brand page!

Martin Gysler's insight:

I like this sentence: "Facebook is a social networking site, not a billboard" Yes, it's a great reminder for everyone.

This post puts the finger on the most important points of social media. Too many people think that Facebook (or other social media platforms) is only a showroom for his company or a product; this is not the right way.

The interaction and real and useful information is the secret of success.

Do you have another opinion?

The Unexpected Way To Use Your Social Network Strategically

The Unexpected Way To Use Your Social Network Strategically | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

We knows that networking is the best way to find out about career opportunities and business opportunities, but is there a smart way to use your network? That's the question! This post will give you some tracks about this subject. [note mg].

If it’s a clear night tonight, go outside about 9 p.m. and look west at the two brightest stars, beautiful as jewels, one above the other. Low to the horizon will be the planet Venus, the “evening star,” just beginning to set. Above Venus is the planet Jupiter, the gas giant with more than 60 known moons (and still counting). Now turn around and face east. Coming up off the horizon you’ll see another jewel, this one quite reddish; that’s Mars, the Red Planet (two tiny moons). On March 3 this year, our Earth (one giant moon) will pass closest to Mars, overtaking it in our orbital race around the Sun.

The solar system is a network of planets, each of which has its own network of moons, so it provides a picturesque (if inexact) analogy for social networks, which are also networks of networks. Everyone seems to be on the social media bandwagon now, with the most enthusiastic advocates often competing to build up their networks of Twitter followers, Facebook friends, or LinkedIn connections.

I have compiled a list of all the activities that I think are considered as Facebook marketing gone wrong or in other words – facepalms. To make matters more interesting, I’ve added +2 points to each item on the list. The logic behind that is that the more points you have, the more you fail at Facebook. Add them up and see how you stand!

1. Your fanpage doesn’t have a vanity url. Instead, the web address of your Facebook fan page consists of random numbers. If that’s the case, you won’t be able to successfully establish a link between offline and online marketing...

Study shows the new Facebook newsfeed impacts negatively on small Facebook Pages

Study shows the new Facebook newsfeed impacts negatively on small Facebook Pages | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

Facebook analytics site Edgerank Checker has released a study into the impact of the new Facebook newsfeed, one month into its release.

When Facebook rolled out the changes to the feed last month, moving from a two tab system of ‘latest news’ and ‘most popular’, to the real-time updates and single stream, it meant that users were exposed to more content, as we were now seeing every single update made by any of our friends, no matter what page we were on within Facebook.

The impact for businesses however, was that Page content was getting less exposure, as you were now competing more heavily for space. The study from Edgerank Checker has found that over a sample of over 5,800 random Pages, 82% experienced a reduction in the amount of impressions on the Page.

Facebook Pages Are a Bad Investment for Small Businesses - Forbes

Facebook Pages Are a Bad Investment for Small Businesses - Forbes | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

In my last four posts I’ve shared some of the lessons that I’ve learned from helping set up lullubee.com, a new business that makes and markets kits for making crafts. After we launched the site and figured out how to take ordersand ship products, the next task we faced was to get more visitors to the site, and ultimately more sales. In the next few posts I’ll cover several of the techniques we implemented, but in this post I’ll focus on Facebookmarketing.

The first thing we did was to set up our Facebook Page, as recommended in Facebooks “Four Steps to Business success on Facebook“.

Once you set up your page, you need to get users to visit it and, hopefully, to “like” it. The reason you want people to like your page is that your posts will then appear on that users news feed. Over time this will allow you, according to Facebook, to start “building loyalty and creating opportunities to generate sales.” The first method to get likes is to promote it on your own website using Facebook social plugins. As this costs nothing, you may as well do it, but the percentage of visitors that click on these is typically very small. The second is to purchase Facebook Ads that persuade people to visit your page and to like it. The irony of spending money to promote our Facebook page instead of our site was not lost on us.

Martin Gysler's insight:

An interesting analyse on Facebook marketing for small businesses.

I agree with the author, that a small business shouldn't invest in promotion option, it's indeed to expensive.

What is your opinion ?

Catherine Luense's curator insight, January 25, 2013 6:11 AM

I agree with Forbes! I feel like FB pages are getting more expensive to own and operate. I make more connections on Twitter per day then I do on FB in a week. Every since I converted my Profile into a page it has been a nightmare! When I try to connect with a person or service, upon login, I am directed to their ad campaign page. It is getting so annoying! G+, Pinrest, and Twitter have become my marketing method of choice. Has anyone noticed this as well?

Martin Gysler's comment, January 26, 2013 10:56 AM
Catherine thank you for your information. It's interesting to hear that you had problems with the conversion of your Facebook profile. I had never heard this information, maybe because I've never done this work for me or another. With regard to marketing opportunities, they may vary depending on the target audience. To say that Twitter is better than Facebook or another platform, remains difficult in my opinion.
Martin Gysler's comment, January 26, 2013 11:00 AM
Of course Ted, it's also an approach. I think everyone should make his choice according to his opinion.

Without even realizing it though, your perspective began to shift.

Somehow, somewhere, you got… serious.

You started counting your retweets.

How Brands Can Manage Facebook Comment Overload

Large-scale waves of Facebook comments can come at any time, for a variety of reasons. Try these steps for effective comment management.

Human beings are social by nature, and not surprisingly, we choose to spend much of our talkative time on Facebook.

Comscore released data in December 2011 that showed Facebook is virtually synonymous with social media. Worldwide, people spend three out of every four minutes of their total social networking time on Facebook.

Check out the recent comment counts on nearly any major Facebook brand Page — the numbers get big very quickly. Disney’s image of Happy, the dwarf from Snow White earned over 1,600 comments at the time of publication. Coca-Cola asked fans whether they have ice-cold Cokes in their fridges – 2,170+ comments.

The Secret to Attracting 1,000 True Fans

The Secret to Attracting 1,000 True Fans | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

Everyone says play bigger, grow; keep expanding.

But is all growth and development good, or even necessary?

I’ve learned that there’s no guarantee that growth will make a difference in your business. You can have more people on your list, and no one actually buying. You can have more traffic, and only crickets in your comments section.

There’s a big difference between growth that’s meaningful and growth that’s hollow. The difference is depth.

A lot of people say you need 1,000 true fans. I think that’s a good, tangible goal to aim for.

For our purposes, “True Fans” are defined as: People that buy everything you create. When you announce the launch of a product, creation, or offer, they are actively waiting for you to release it. They refresh the “coming soon” page. They comment on every post. They tell everyone they can about what you do.

1,000 is good because it’s a number that we can wrap our minds around. It seems like a stretch, but it also seems doable. You can convert one true fan a day if you’re really on your game.

Facebook’s introduction of the “subscription” feature for profile pages has blurred certain lines between profile and fan pages for many individuals seeking to leverage social media to build their own personal brand and on-line presence. This is particularly true for many sales people, agents, etc. who are looking to use Facebook as a way to communicate with customers and prospects.

Facebook fan pages were originally created for brands like Coke or Walmart and expanded out to be used by celebrities, organizations, places, and many others. Many individuals who wanted to interact with fans, prospects, and customers also began to create fan pages since it was an effective way of separating their personal Facebook activity from their business or public Facebook presence. In addition, fan pages provided lower barrier to entry in that it did not require the page to “approve” each follower / fan / friend...
