Bloom: A Different Kind of Productivity App for the iPhone

Bloom: A Different Kind of Productivity App for the iPhone | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

seattle-based Mindbloom has made waves with its digital inspiration and productivity web app, adding a gamification element to the niche that was both unique in approach and in accessibility. Now they’ve added a standalone app to its arsenal with Bloom, a free app that gives users a real kickstart in doing what really matters in everyday life. It offers a fun and simple way to transform photos and music into a private or shared digital inspiration. Bloom brings what’s really important in life to the forefront, enabling users to connect better with their lives as a whole as opposed to just their to-do lists. I’ve had a chance to play with the app while it was in testing, and the Mindbloom team definitely are onto something with Bloom...

Writing Tools, Part 3 – iPad Applications for Authors

Writing Tools, Part 3 – iPad Applications for Authors | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

In less than a month, my Apple iPad, as I described in Part 1 and Part 2, quickly became an essential writing tool helping me save time building my brand by planning, writing, promoting, and profiting from published books.

This is not to say, of course, that the iPad is a replacement for desktop or laptop computers. But, the iPad certainly complements them, adding a new dimension of convenience and usability that has recharged the way I work.

The following is an informal survey of the primary iPad applications that I have grown to depend on. If you’re already an iPad user, you undoubtedly have your own preferences – and I encourage you to share your preferences and experiences with me and other Personal Branding Blog followers...

Writing Tools, Part 1 – Why Authors Need iPads

Writing Tools, Part 1 – Why Authors Need iPads | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

An Apple iPad can make a major contribution to your writing and marketing success, whether you’re a self-employed professional writing a book to build your brand or an entrepreneur creating social media content to market your small business.

I can understand, though, if you think I’ve overstated the benefits of writing and marketing

with an iPad.

Confession: I was originally skeptical about using an iPad for writing and marketing.

I doubted that an iPad would quickly become a significant part of my daily writing and social media marketing.

As a result, when I received one as a birthday gift, I viewed it as something else to complicate my life! I never expected it how much it would actually simplify my life and save a lot of time...

6 Lessons We Could Learn from Steve Jobs

6 Lessons We Could Learn from Steve Jobs | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

Tracking the achievements of Steve Jobs isn’t a difficult thing to do. They’re big, public and - especially in technology - remarkably long lasting. More tricky but, I think, more interesting, is eliciting from those achievements the lessons we could learn from his successes if we tried.

1. Style is Content

From the outset, Jobs and Apple believed in style: in fonts, in graphics, in industrial design and in marketing. It’s easy to under-estimate how eccentric this was at the time - and how eccentric it remains today. While most organizations believe that style is the exclusive purview of marketing, few achieve it even there. Most hardware and software remains remarkably clunky, ugly or simply derivative...

Build Your Own Mobile App With Appsbar

Build Your Own Mobile App With Appsbar | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it
Everyone talks about how important it is to build an iPhone or Android app, but it doesn’t look inexpensive or easy. Until now. I’ve been testing appsbar, a free Web-based app that allows small business owners create their own iOS or Android application.

I found appsbar.com when researching the digital coupon phenomenon (think Groupon and Living Social) and discovered a post by appsbar founder Scott Hirsch, who built the tool, in part, as a do-it-yourself coupon service. From the merchant point of view, the pricing of coupons is expensive. Most business owners considering coupons could benefit from a tool that lets you build it yourself and keep the profit margins higher...

iOS 5: The Top 10 New Features | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it

The new iOS 5 goes live soon, bringing with it revamped notifications and more than 200 new features for your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. These are the top ten, and then some more.

Some of these features you already had in your iPhone or iPad. They just came in third-party apps.

If you used apps like the must-have WhatsApp, which allows you to message in an extremely easy way with all kinds of phones for free, you already were enjoying something like iMessage (even while iMessage adds important services, like device-wide conversation synchronization)...

The Steve Jobs I Knew

The Steve Jobs I Knew | BUSINESS and more | Scoop.it
That Apple's Steve Jobs was a genius, a giant influence on multiple industries and billions of lives, has been written many times. But there was a more personal side of Steve Jobs, of course, and I was fortunate enough to see a bit of it.

That Steve Jobs was a genius, a giant influence on multiple industries and billions of lives, has been written many times since he retired as Apple’s CEO in August. He was a historical figure on the scale of a Thomas Edison or a Henry Ford, and set the mold for many other corporate leaders in many other industries.

He did what a CEO should: Hired and inspired great people; managed for the long term, not the quarter or the short-term stock price; made big bets and took big risks. He insisted on the highest product quality and on building things to delight and empower actual users, not intermediaries like corporate IT directors or wireless carriers. And he could sell. Man, he could sell.
