Public sector strike threat looms

Public sector strike threat looms | Business Support for the CEO | Scoop.it
Talks are continuing between the government and public sector unions as their existing agreement expires on Tuesday.
Dr. Michael John Freestone's insight:

Since 1967, output per worker per unit of capital has fallen from R7 297 to R4 924 a year – a  decline of 32,5%. From the peak in 1993, this measure of labour productivity has fallen by 41,2%.

“This measure at least explains why the South African economy’s labour intensity is falling and returns on capital are rising and why labour’s share of national income is at an all-time low while capital’s share is at an all-time high.”

Press Release issued on behalf of:

Mandy Jones, Adcorp Holdings, Group Marketing Manager http://www.adcorp.co.za/NEws/Pages/SAlabourproductivityatthelowestlevelin46years.aspx

They, The Unions, don’t give a damn. They almost destroyed the manufacturing sector last time and now this.

Basic understanding of economic principles should be taught at school. Money doesn't grow on trees nor does it come from a stone. They don't realise that we have a worker to government beneficiary ratio in South Africa that is untenable. SARS reported recently that the level of taxation received is insufficient to pay for all government expenses hence our recent tax increases. I won’t even go onto the corruption that has to be paid for as this is a whole blog on its own.

This pending strike will certainly add to this dilemma as the workforce, those that pay tax, will diminish even further after this as many companies balancing on the brink may just be nudged over into the abyss, dragging workers in with them. I can imagine many Section 189 and 189a’s being planned as I write.  Maybe we should give SA to the Chinese – they almost have all our manufacturing under their thumb now. The Chinese won’t tolerate this nonsense and our workers will start to understand the hard way what productivity means.

Branding On The Inside - TalentCulture

Branding On The Inside - TalentCulture | Business Support for the CEO | Scoop.it
Deep branding not only improves employee engagement but encourages employees to live the values that represent the brand and reinforces the brands image.
Dr. Michael John Freestone's insight:

"If your company lives its brand, lives the values that it espouses, then it will gain a deeper meaning for your employees, beyond merely being the space where they earn their pay checks. It will provide values that they can commit to."

I have sadly seen so many companies talk about values but never practice them and then wonder why they cant keep customers because the staff just don't care. Customers have a 6th sense about a company.  They can sense that what is advertised on the outside isn't what is practised on the inside. Disgruntled staff can be the death knell to Customer Service. Without real Customer Service you will not engage with your Customer to become a Trusted Brand.

Your Aspirations will never be brought to fruition if your internal branding does not match what your external branding says.

A Business Model

A Business Model | Business Support for the CEO | Scoop.it

"The start of any turnabout process always must involve a “no holds barred” confrontation with the brutal facts. If the responsibility for the troubles is internal, as uncomfortable as that may be, it offers hope for the turnabout of the company. If the cause was completely beyond managerial control, the correct course of action is most often to plan the closure, and salvage what is left. A horrible thought.

A business model is a description of “how an organization creates, delivers, and captures value”. Revisiting a troubled company’s business model is a very useful way to have staff confront the real problems in the business and see where they should focus their efforts to redeem the situation. This confrontation, while brutal, shows the way back to success and often lifts the pall of despondency that hovers over troubled businesses.

Business Model Generation is visual, and begins with a clarifying structure with which any business can be described. The clarity that comes from what the authors call the “canvas” highlights both the problems and the opportunities. The clarifying structure becomes a shared language that facilitates discussion, and highlights flaws and opportunities."
