10 Things You Can Do Today to Close More Deals

10 Things You Can Do Today to Close More Deals | Business Support | Scoop.it

Closing deals comes at a cost to the salesperson: the opportunity cost of closing more deals in the same amount of time.

As a salesperson, every call you have should be calculated, and every dialogue should have a meaningful and pre-planned goal.

The good news is that there are often easy things you can do to make deals come in more quickly, without jeopardizing the business relationship.

1. Disqualify Early

As much as you want to close deals, don't be afraid to disqualify prospects who you think won't buy.  Your time is valuable, and you should spend it with prospects that you have a realistic chance of closing.  Before you book an hour-long call, make sure that the prospect understands entirely what the call will be in regards to, and make sure that they are in a position where you can both gain from the call.

Social Media Finds New Role as News and Entertainment Curator

Social Media Finds New Role as News and Entertainment Curator | Business Support | Scoop.it

...“Mainstream news organizations have endured a skeptical public for decades,” said Kjerstin Thorson, a professor at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California.

Now, she says, social media companies may face similar, and perhaps jarring, scrutiny.

Facebook declined to say how many people have editorial roles, as did Instagram, which Facebook owns. But several other companies provided some details about their operations that suggest the scope and variety of their editorial ambitions.

Snapchat said it has around 75 people who produce content, collecting and annotating videos and photos of live events and sometimes adding on-the-scene reporting themselves. Twitter employs just under a dozen people in the United States and around two dozen worldwide to collect and describe postings about notable topics.

Vine, the video service owned by Twitter, employs five to 10 people to highlight videos and producers that might have been overlooked by the audience, or that the company simply wants more people to see.

Vine employs five to 10 people to highlight videos on its site.

“Where curation picks up,” said Ankur Thakkar, the editorial lead of Vine, “is that you need human eyes and ears to pick up on a cultural trend that a machine might not see.”

In some cases, these teams coexist with media professionals working elsewhere on the platform. Peter Hamby, a former CNN political reporter, oversees a team of six journalists within Snapchat, while media companies — including CNN — produce content for the company’s Discover feature....

Seven Tips for Improving Your Content Marketing With Scannable Web Content | Business Support | Scoop.it
We're about to ruin your day and make you rethink your entire marketing career with just one little observation: People are not reading your content marketing materials.

They're not reading ours, either.

Or anyone else's, for that matter.

About half of those who check out an online article will scroll through the first screen of content, but they won't go any farther. Sadly, most site visitors bounce off the page after seeing just the images or headlines.

That's pretty depressing news if you write anything longer than just a few paragraphs for your company's website or blog.

There's more evidence to support the growing importance of mobile devices along the path to purchase.

The report compares mobile use from the fourth quarter of 2015 to the same period the year before. It found that shoppers are using mobile devices, particularly smartphones, to assist with in-store sales more frequently than for online shopping.

Roughly 72 percent are researching an item or checking prices on a smartphone before buying. Store locators are popular with 60 percent of smartphone users, and 55 percent are using mobile coupons.

Three ways tech is reinventing a surprising sector

Three ways tech is reinventing a surprising sector | Business Support | Scoop.it

More than 1 million users. Sixteen billion monthly page views. Ninety-nine percent user engagement.

If these sound like stats from tech companies, you’re right. Except these tech companies are nonprofits.

In Steve Case’s new book, The Third Wave, he argues that this next generation of the Internet will transform major industry sectors and become integrated into everything we do. We are already seeing the tremendous impact of software and the Internet transform one of the least discussed areas — the nonprofit sector.

With the growing ubiquity of mobile phones and the Internet, combined with plummeting connectivity costs and, in some cases, free infrastructure, it’s not surprising that organizations focused on scaling impact are integrating technology into the core of their solution. But you may be surprised to hear how deep technology’s impact has already been on the nonprofit sector....

A Creative Trick to Quickly Find a Solution to Virtually Any Problem

A Creative Trick to Quickly Find a Solution to Virtually Any Problem | Business Support | Scoop.it

Innovative thinkers are heralded for their ability to think creatively. They don't get bogged down by the past. They have a magic crystal ball to see into the future. They're like magicians, pulling creative ideas of all sorts seemingly out of thin air.

If none of the above characteristics seem to describe how you work, you might figure you're just not very creative. That's not true, says Theodore Scaltsas, a philosophy chair at the University of Edinburgh, in a recent Harvard Business Review post.

Scaltsas believes that true creative thinkers make sound decisions influenced by how they've handled similar problems in the past. Anyone can solve problems creatively if they're going about it in the right way. Sitting quietly and expecting that lightning-flash of a good idea to magically pop into your head? Not the right way. Reframing the task at hand based on past experience, which then inspires an innovative idea? That's the right way.
