The SNP today (Monday) welcomed new findings showing that growth in Scotland's private sector in March led to the steepest monthly rise in employment since July 2007.

 

According to new data from the Bank of Scotland, businesses grew at the quickest rate for a year and the results point to a brighter outlook for Scotland’s economy despite cuts in the UK Government’s budget.

Investment company and government bail out Scottish Open | Herald Scotland

THE European Tour's top brass walked in the shadow of Mary Queen of Scots yesterday when they paid a visit to Edinburgh Castle to reveal details of a Scottish Open rescue package worth £8.5m.

 

There had been concerns that the event might ultimately suffer a similar fate to her royal personage who once resided at the capital's most famous landmark.

 

But neither the event nor the venue is in danger of being axed in the foreseeable future after Aberdeen Asset Management was confirmed as the new sponsor.

 

The Scottish government is also putting up £2m over three years as part of the sponsorship package, with the investment company providing the balance of the cash.

The SNP has expressed disappointment at the European Union Competition Commissioner’s ruling to allow British Airways owner IAG to buy BMI.

The Commission said IAG’s concessions to give up 14 daily slots at Heathrow and its pledge to carry connecting passengers to feed its rivals' long-haul flights, were sufficient to address competition concerns.
