The attacker's argument is ridiculous!  He claims to feel threatened and that is why he ripped the other diver's reg out of her mouth because the other divers were 'blocking' his way up.  We've seen the video many times and at no point does it appear that he was trying to exit the water.  RIDICULOUS!

I RECALL a recent visit to a dive store to buy some scuba diving equipment. As I entered, I saw a foreigner standing at the counter waiting to be attended to. He caught my eye and proceeded to tell me what a great store it was. If spare parts or specialized diving equipment were required, he said the store could obtain such items.
