Following in the footsteps of ’60s art queens like Hannah Wilke and Carolee Schneemann, the artists blur the line between their lives, their bodies and their work. –Priscilla Frank, The Huffington PostThe F Word explores radical “4th wave” feminist performance through interviews with a new generation of feminist artists using their bodies as subject matter. Because the female body continues to be politicized and policed, and because these artists delve into the fecund territory of female sexuality, self-objectification, and the female form as a site of resistance, many remain marginalized by the mainstream art world. Leah Schrager, well known for her performance practice, Naked Therapy, states, “As soon as you introduce a bit of sexiness or sexuality into an artwork it suddenly becomes questionable. Just because something elicits arousal or shows elements of sexiness does absolutely not make it not art.” While some 4th wave artists, like Ann Hirsch and Kate Durbin, choose to analyze representations of female identity though digital media, others, like the radical, queer, transnational feminist art collective, Go! Push Pops, explore sexuality and gender in pop culture in the digital age. As feminist lecturer Kristen Sollee explains, 4th wavers, unlike their predecessors, “are not afraid to be ‘girly’, (or) to be hyper-feminine, or to wear a mini-skirt, to self-objectify. That was something that was not part of feminism in the past, and now it’s becoming more and more acceptable.”The F Word is director Robert Adanto’s fourth documentary exploring contemporary art. The F Word premiered at the 2015 Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival and screened during Art Basel Miami Beach at the Coral Gables Art Cinema. Mr. Adanto’s was presented at Dallas Contemporary, in association with Black Sheep Feminism: The Art of Sexual Politics and as part of the Guerrilla Girls’ Twin City Takeover in Minneapolis at the Walker Art Center. His past films have looked at China’s explosive contemporary art scene (The Rising Tide 08), the lives and works of Iranian female artists (Pearls on the Ocean Floor 10) and the impact of Hurricane Katrina on the lives of New Orleans artists (City of Memory 14). His documentaries have been presented at The Smithsonian Institution's Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA); The National Center for Contemporary Art in Moscow; The Queensland Art Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, Australia; The Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago; The Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto; The Hammer Museum in Los Angeles; The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum in Miami; The National Museum of Australia in Canberra; The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, The Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and others. A classically trained actor, Robert earned his M.F.A. in Acting from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and is currently completing a film on the Belgrade-based performance artist, Marta Jovanovic.Official Trailer and Selected Clips:Official TrailerNarcissisterGo! Over 50 Nonprofits Demand Congress Act to Protect Free Speech as Deadline Looms

Washington, DC — On October 1, the congressional deadline to prevent the IRS from trampling over the free-speech rights of nonprofits will expire, and more than four dozen organizations from across the country have now banded together to demand that Congress take action.

In early August, the Tax Revolution Institute (TRI) — a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that promotes “justice and integrity in the tax system” — launched the First Amendment Alliance: a nonpartisan effort to protect the free-speech rights of nonprofits.

Since that time, the First Amendment Alliance (1AA) has swelled in size, now totaling over 50 groups that represent every segment of the political spectrum and civil society. The 1AA’s mission is to prevent the IRS from implementing Regulation 134417–13, otherwise known as the IRS “muzzle rule.”

Organizations such as Free the PeopleMuslims for Liberty, and Restore the Fourth have recently joined the cause, offering their support and solidarity to an already diverse group of nonprofits, including Fight for the FutureMove to Amend, and Coffee Party USA.

“No bureaucrat should be able to decide whether citizens can exercise political free speech; least of all the tax man,” said Josh Withrow, Director of Public Policy at Free the People. “It’s great to see such a broad coalition of advocacy groups setting aside their differences and demanding that the IRS keep its hands off of our right to band together and engage in the vigorous public debate on the role of government that defines us as a free people.”

Hesham El-Meligy, co-founder of Muslims for Liberty, explained, “This regulation will stifle free speech and the good that comes out of not-for-profits. Instead of focusing on the work and education, not-for-profits will calculate every step and abstain from a lot of the good they are doing, fearing the worst”.

The full list of organizations that currently form the 1AA now includes: Ax the Tax, Benjamin Rush Institute, Blue Republican, Central Florida Tea Party, Christian Party of America, Christian Party of North Carolina, Citizens In Charge, Citizens In Charge Foundation, Coffee Party USA, Common Ground Movement, Community Steeple Media LLC, Eight is Enough Orlando, Fight for the Future, FLActivist, Florida Tax Payers Union, Florida Tea Party, Free the People, Fully Informed Jury Association of Florida, Granite Institute, HerRights.org, Idaho Freedom Action, Idaho Freedom Foundation, Idaho Second Amendment Alliance, Legal Immigrants for America, Liberate Ohio, Libertarian Party of Broward County, Liberty Guard, Liberty Initiative Fund, Liberty Justice Center, Move to Amend, Mr. Ed’s Circle of Trust Inc, Muslims For Liberty, National Association of Parents, Our America Initiative, Parents Teachers and Advocates, Patriot Coalition, People Against the NDAA, Popular Resistance, Put Growth First, Restore the Fourth, Rio Grande Foundation, Ronald Reagan Republican Assemblies of Florida, SoCal Tax Revolt Coalition Inc, Taxpayer Education Foundation, Taxpayers United of America, The FREEDOM! Fund, The Human Solution, The Prompting, We Resist, and Women-Matter.org.

The muzzle rule — initially introduced by the IRS in 2013 — aims to redefine the meaning of “electioneering” to include constitutionally protected speech, such as news reporting and issue advocacy. As TRI has previously noted, the agency’s proposed definition of electioneering is so broad that any discussion of politicians, their voting records, or even the mere mention of a political candidate’s name, is enough to have an organization stripped of its tax-exempt status.

Why Trump and Clinton Are Proposing Benefits for Family Caregivers

Why Trump and Clinton Are Proposing Benefits for Family Caregivers | Business News & Finance | Scoop.it
Elder care responsibilities weigh heavily on family budgets and careers.

Both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have proposed new benefits for Americans who take care of elderly relatives—and new data shows how big a pocketbook issue this is for many families.

More than 40% of family caregivers spend $5,000 or more of their own money each year on food, clothing, transportation, medical care and other costs for their aging loved ones, according to a study released Monday by Caring.com.

Workers pass out mosquito repellent to homeless in Wynwood

Workers pass out mosquito repellent to homeless in Wynwood | Business News & Finance | Scoop.it

As the push for people to protect themselves against the Zika virus continues, a Florida-based company that produces environmentally friendly wellness products took to the streets Sunday to provide mosquito repellent to the homeless.

Over several hours, Penta5 USA workers and volunteers passed out 1,400 packets of MosquitoPaQ with the help of Miami Rescue Mission.

“These are people who are more at risk,” said Dr. John Harlin, who helped distribute the packets, which he says are safe for pregnant women. Harlin said the homeless population isn’t likely to purchase mosquito repellent, but everyone should have access to it.

Sarasota business creates natural mosquito repellant

Sarasota business creates natural mosquito repellant | Business News & Finance | Scoop.it

You now have another natural way of protecting your family from mosquitoes and it's made right here in the Bay area.

A Sarasota company develops a product that protects humans and mosquitoes. Charles Murray’s company, Penta5, has developed an all-natural, non-toxic, chemical-free and environmentally-friendly mosquito repellant.

Murray says, “We looked at the mosquitoes and said there’s some products they can’t stand. We’ve decide to put those into the product.”

MosquitoPaq has close to a dozen natural ingredients like peppermint oil, avocado oil and citronella. Murray says the secret is in how they are mixed.

Murray says, “We’re adamant we can achieve what the chemical products are doing, getting the same results using a natural formula. So if children touch it, the dog eats it, everyone will be safe.”

Murray, CEO of the PPi Technologies Group, says a University of Florida study backs his product’s effectiveness. The formula claims to last for up to six hours. And if a mosquito doesn’t bite it doesn’t transfer diseases like the Zika virus and malaria.

“We’re interested in stopping the bite that leads to the need for a cure,” says Murray.

Instead of the mosquito seeking protein from human blood, Murray says the product redirects the pest to look for another food source.

torchlight Announces First Online Platform for Modern Caregivers Balancing Work and Elder Care

Tech company offers innovative benefit torchlight elder to support demands of work and elder careBoston – June 28, 2016 – torchlight, creator of the first technology platform to support modern caregivers, announced today the launch of torchlight elder, a solution that guides employees in caring for aging family members with confidence. Designed for innovative employers, torchlight elder provides personalized action plans, easy-to-use digital tools, and expert advice to help the working caregiver balance the demands of work and caring for an elderly family member.According to Ceridian Lifeworks’ 2015 Report “Double Duty, The Caregiving Crisis in the Workplace,” over 22 million American workers are also caretakers for family and friends, spending an average of 29 hours per week providing care in addition to their regular work hours. The report estimates that the demands of caregiving and resulting absenteeism cost employers $38.2 billion in lost productivity each year. Furthermore, the Administration on Aging estimates that, by 2030, there will be about 72.1 million older persons in the U.S., representing an increase of more than 45 percent since 2009.“As the number of Americans ages 65 and older is projected to more than double by 2060, companies must learn how to support their employees who are responsible for caregiving for an adult,” said Gail Hunt, president & CEO of the National Alliance for Caregiving. “Innovative technologies are critical to businesses in developing a caregiver-friendly work environment for supporting their employees. These technologies can support working caregivers by providing information and services to allow them to stay in the workforce.”

6 Facts About Caregiving That Will Make You Cringe

6 Facts About Caregiving That Will Make You Cringe | Business News & Finance | Scoop.it

There are 34 million family caregivers in the U.S. and more joining their ranks daily as the population ages. Caring.com on Monday released findings from its annual study on the state of caregiving. Using that and a few other sources, here’s what we found to be the most cringe-worthy facts.

1. There are haves and have-nots, even among family caregivers.

Caregivers who get to go home to their own home each night are much luckier than those for whom this option does not exist. Housing arrangements kind of divide the world of caregivers into the haves and have-nots ― the have-nots being the group that cannot escape their responsibilities for even a minute because they live under the same roof with them. Some lucky caregivers get to go home to their own space after caregiving. They can lock the door behind them, shut out what they want to shut out.

But most family caregivers don’t get to do this. Almost 60 percent of the family caregivers surveyed by Caring.com live with the person for whom they are caring. More than half of them (56 percent) are their spouses ― which is a whole other ballgame (see next item). A quarter (25 percent) said their loved one ― a parent or in-law ― moved in with them.

2. Spousal caregiving is the worst of the worst.

We’ve met caregivers who care for parents, children, and even friends. But the caregivers who care for their spouses are the ones who generally struggle the most, studies have shown. They watch their spouse go from partner to patient. Suddenly, after years of sharing life choices and decisions and responsibilities, everything falls into the lap of the healthy spouse.

When the person you married is no longer able to be as present in the relationship – the loneliness can feel worse than if they were not there at all.  Often there is a sense of resentment and anger that they did not hold up their end of the bargain.

As one spousal caregiver told us pretty succinctly, “It’s hard to go from changing my husband’s diaper to envisioning ever having sex with him again.”

A 2014 AARP and United Hospital Fund survey found that spousal caregivers suffer higher rates of stress than non-spousal caregivers. Seventy percent felt they had no choice but to provide care.

The study said most spouses reported wanting “to do the right thing for their beloved partners” but felt “ground down by ongoing demands and demoralized by the lack of acknowledgement they receive.” They often become more socially isolated over time ― and yes, depressed.

 3. Caregiving has moved from being a nursing-related profession into something that families are now expected to provide.

Breaking Mosquitoes of Blood Habit - SRQ Daily Sep 12, 2016

Breaking Mosquitoes of Blood Habit - SRQ Daily Sep 12, 2016 | Business News & Finance | Scoop.it

Can mosquitoes be trained to stop biting people? The scientists at Penta5, a Sarasota-based company, think they can do so with the new MosquitoPaQ. Penta5 founder Charles Murray even joked at a Friday awards ceremony that the product could turn mosquitoes into a vegetarian species. “We have such pride in this product,” says Sandra Murray, Penta5 vice president of marketing. “This can help stop people from dying of malaria, or stop babies from being harmed by the spread of Zika.”

The product was honored Friday with the Ringling College Innovation by Creative Design award, an honor bestowed annually by the Sarasota arts school and the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County.

Scientists at Penta5, a company that works with chemical products from metabolism-boosting water drinks to insulated juice packs, have been developing the MosquitoPaQ product for about eight years. The product puts out a chemical to attract mosquitos that will extinguish the insects’ desire for blood. It has been marketed as a way to combat flaviviruses like Zika using environmentally sound, organic means.
