Transliteracy- QR Codes & Art « 21st Century Learning | BI Revolution | Scoop.it

"The ability to read, write and interact across a range of platforms, tools and media from signing and orality through handwriting, print, TV, radio and film, to digital social networks. The modern meaning of the term combines literacy with the prefix trans-, which means “across; through”, so a transliterate person is one who is literate across multiple media." ...

Microsoft Launches Curation Site msnNow

Microsoft Launches Curation Site msnNow | BI Revolution | Scoop.it

**** Welcome to the NFL Microsoft. Marty

'Microsoft has launched a site that curates content from blogs, news feeds, and social media sites in an effort to aggregate buzzworthy topics from around the Web in one place.

The site, msnNow, "cuts through the clutter of the Web, providing an up-to-the minute view of breaking trends and the hottest social conversations, what people are saying about them, and why they matter," the software maker said.

MsnNow captures feeds from Facebook, Twitter, Bing, BreakingNews.com, and other sites. Microsoft said content is chosen through the use of special algorithms that measure which topics are generating the most buzz around the Web.

The site features a rotating carousel of top stories at the top of the page, and a sidebar panel on the right that lists the "biggest movers."

MsnNow also features a prominent Bing search box, an indication that Microsoft is hoping the site will drive traffic to its search engine.'

Learn to Trust Your Gut

Learn to Trust Your Gut | BI Revolution | Scoop.it

You are the sum of your experience, knowledge, skills and wisdom gained over your lifetime. Often, your gut instincts will tell you that you know a better way, than a way that is being proposed to you, by someone claiming expertise in a particular subject.

Unfortunately, too often leaders and managers ignore their own gut feelings, or the gut feelings of their employees, when considering various options as part of a decision making process.

This excellent article, explains why you should take note of yours and others gut feelings at key decision points, and how you can learn to trust your own gut and teach others to trust theirs.

HERE HERE and from HBR of all places :). Marty

Brands Want Content Curator Jobs | Digiday

Brands Want Content Curator Jobs | Digiday | BI Revolution | Scoop.it

Digital media has emboldened many brands to consider themselves publishers. After all, American Express has credibility on financial matters and Coke has a network 36 million Facebook fans. Who needs publishers to serve as intermediaries?

The problem is publishing is a lot harder than it looks, or rather it’s a lot harder to do it with the consistency, day after day, that’s needed to build a long-term audience. That’s leading some brands to hook onto the idea that their role lies more in the curation of content.

Curation is the vogue digital term for the ability to not only aggregate and distribute carefully selected information, but also to provide a unique voice on top of the original pieces of information. In the age of Twitter and Facebook, it seems like all the world is curators now. Brands want in on the action.

Brands are trying to establish themselves as trusted sources of information. Hop onto Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr, and you’ll see brands that gather up articles from all sorts of publications and push them out to their followers. For example, look at IBM’s Tumblr, A Smarter Planet, which is a stream of curated content focused on areas of Big Blue’s core competencies. Or there’s American Express’ Open Forum Tumblr (yes, Tumblr is apparently a good platform for curation) that has cultivated a business community online by providing relevant tools and information to help business owners succeed.

“If a brand is an expert in a certain topic, their reputation might make them a credible source of information,” said Neil Chase, svp of editing and publishing at Federated Media. “But if a company that makes toasters gives health advice, they might not be credible. If they’re sending out recipes, that’s a reason to trust them.”

How Higher Education Is Going Digital #Infographic

How Higher Education Is Going Digital #Infographic | BI Revolution | Scoop.it

Etextbooks and online learning communities are just a few of the ways colleges and universities are dabbling in digital. People are talking about digital tech’s opportunity to improve the classroom.

Much of the discussion has been focused on digital textbooks.

Apple’s recent announcement of iBooks for education has caused a stir over whether texts delivered on an expensive and propriety device like the iPad are really feasible.

Meanwhile at the university level, many schools are dipping their toes in the promise of a digital future, and it’s not just about textbooks.

The folks at OnlineUniversities.com -  http://bit.ly/zUdjDY  have compiled the Infographic that explores the pros and cons of various platforms and technologies that have found their way into the halls of higher ed.

How Much Does SEO Cost?

How Much Does SEO Cost? | BI Revolution | Scoop.it

“Why can’t you just give me a straight answer?” Johanna’s voice showed a trace of irritation.  “All I’m asking is how much you charge for SEO services!” I smiled. This was familiar terrain."

Being the right brain creative I am I HATE ROI and costs questions. ROI and costs are often swords used to lop off the head of any future initiative, any progress no matter how tiny away from status quo. The cost of SEO is the wrong question asked in the wrong way. Better question is what do you want to accomplish? How is your business different? Can you afford NOT to be an authority online about whatever it is that makes you special? Good luck with that, let me know how it works for you :). One day, not long after reading this, you will remember that strange man who wanted to have the, "Who are you online," conversation. Had a person with no Klout score tell me they were powerful in their field the other day. Good, I said simply, then the challenge to get Google to recognize you as an authority will be easir. They didn't do the deal since telling false "experts" they need to prove themselves all over again creates anger. Bet Seth Godin wouldn't give it a thought. Seth would roll up his sleeves and start being Seth and in nothing flat he would have 10,000 followers and a Klout score above 40. SEO costs are the wrong question asked in the wrong way. Marty

Fight For The Future Of Advertising

Fight For The Future Of Advertising | BI Revolution | Scoop.it
War!The Fight For The Future Of Advertising - 02/13/2012...

"There is a war taking place in advertising, one that will determine what the industry will look like for years to come. This battle is being waged on multiple fronts, but the outcome will be based on one question: What technology will marketers use to create, target, deliver and measure their ads? The winning software will make its makers rich and powerful. The losers will fade into history. Everyone else in advertising will be inexorably linked to the technology that wins, perhaps for generations.

Working Groups: the self-organising revolution

Working Groups: the self-organising revolution | BI Revolution | Scoop.it

"Anyone interested in emergent self organising processes that occur when diverse individuals assemble for a common cause, cannot fail to be impressed by how the Occupy movement has demonstrated a capacity for well structured engagement through the working group protocol. Combining the use of such online platforms to share grassroot practices, such as shown here at How to Occupy and the in-person General Assemblies, helps co-ordinate the competencies of Occupiers into pragmatic groups.

When the General Assembly is at its best, it supports and holds the working groups accountable to their self-assigned remits and the needs of the community. A representative chronicles all activities and records them faithfully on the web, as with this one from Occupy Edmonton."
