Content marketing's biggest challenge may be understanding not all content is equal. And how unequal your content is may be very different than a different website or business vertical. Your content inequality may be different than mine even if we are in the same biz.

Here is a great infographic by @Cendrine Marrouat - www.socialmediaslant.com that helps put content's context in perspective.

Everyday Is A Choice: Americans Crave More Meaning at Work (updated) | Infographic | BI Revolution | Scoop.it
The Philips Work/Life Survey examined key factors of Americans’ job happiness, with a particular focus on their ability to bring personal interests
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Work is about so much more than money. Most of the ways we compensate and even THINK about employees and work is wrong or vastly outdated says this infographic and Daniel Pink's excellent Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us (great book).

http://www.danpink.com/books/drive

Why are we so wrong? Pink notes that 30% of the humans are "mercenary" or interested and motivated mainly by gains for themselves. The vast majority of people believe in the "greater good theory", that doing the right thing is not only the right thing to do but brings some karmic balance.

If the majority of people want to do the right thing why are most of our compensation systems grounded in the whip, gun and chair approach assuming people do what they are told, that people are animals without free will.

Not so much as it turns out and as this great infographic illuminates. We work for connection, meaning and relevance. Most of the people reading this post are Internet marketers, a group who will have more work than they can handle for twenty years.

The web is such a complex and evolving thing rapidly becoming mission critical to every company that those who understand it, to the extent it is understandable, work NOT for money as much as for other benefits such as meaning, appreciation and relevance.

We are SOCIAL and find the most meaningful values of our work in the connections our work creates. If we ever doubted the importance of connection social media is reminding us in a big way. The challenge is to redesign work because every band and company exists mostly in the minds of its employees.

The line between how employees feel and think about their employer and "branding" or "reputation" is becomes thinner and thinner by the day. Companies must create themselves in the minds of their team daily and so each member of the team must create themselves too.

No one creates anything alone anymore, so if you are a President or CEO or CIO or CMO ask yourself the hard question - is your company winning the hearts and minds of your employees AND your customers? You need both to win these days and any brand, company or product is only as strong as their weakest link.

More and more I think the only way to manage the NOWness of Internet marketing is with a real time setup like this.

Put your favorite searhes on one screen, your Online Reputation Management on another and competition on the third then rinse and repeat until you can't miss anything and before you know it the wall if full of monitors (sort of like the Network Operations Center at Atlantic BT will take a picture of that soon).

Why Every Company Needs Email Marketing [Infographic]

Why Every Company Needs Email Marketing [Infographic] | BI Revolution | Scoop.it

Customers acquired with email marketing are loyal and responsive. See on socialmediatoday.com.

Marty - Funny I JUST wrote how email marketing forms the BASIS of the web's future. Want to know how your website will function 36 months from now (or so) you don't have to look much further than email. Here is the link to that post:

http://sco.lt/7r6zkf

I will add to the persuasive argument made by this infographic about why everyone should have email. When I ran a #ecom team email had a full ten points of margin on its closest rival (organic SEO). PPC made NO MONEY but keep the engine well oiled and the list health (so we made money on Lifetime Value LTV). Print was dying and social was nascent.

Email is how I kept my job. Every company should have an active email marketing program since it makes money, but also because email is the future of it all.

How and WHEN Links Help or HURT Your SEO.

How and WHEN Links Help or HURT Your SEO. | BI Revolution | Scoop.it

Links Are Not Born Equal
Some links come from pages that don't help your SEO (described on the left). Some links REALLY help your SEO (those from PR4 or above websites) and others hurt your SEO (links from spammy neighborhoods or link farms).

Post Panda a link from a PR8 or PR9 website could hurt to if it is all alone. A single link with the proper anchor text from such a highly ranked website must have social signals. Without Facebook likes, shares and other links that PR9 site will stick out like a sore thumb.

The Zombie Economy | Infographic

The Zombie Economy | Infographic | BI Revolution | Scoop.it

British businesses are shrugging off their “zombie” label by solving the critical financial problems that have plagued them since 2007.

Marty
I think "Zombie" is a perfect description for many businesses in America too. I just visited a favorite gift store the other day to buy a funky shower curtain and the store was a shambles.

I ended up buying Girl with a Pearl Earring from CafePress.com. The gift businesses, like many businesses, have been through several waves of "Zombie-ficaiton" including the first web wave and now the platforming of the business by Etsy.com, CafePress and the like.

That the brick and mortar store I used to love is now a Zombie (walking dead) is sad but a result of the inability to the single store to compete without the Internet's help. Where once a crazy funky buyer (like my ex) could create relevance and buzz simply by BUYING now a story is needed, a coherent story with great hooks and emotional impact.

Mostly a story that must be told online first since attention is THERE and won't be shared with a Zombie unless the zombie can wake up and smell the aroma of that scented candle :). M

SEO: Do Top Listings Still Matter? A: Yes, No and Maybe

SEO: Do Top Listings Still Matter? A: Yes, No and Maybe | BI Revolution | Scoop.it
#Google Search - How Important Is It to Be on the Top? (Really, with the float, #1 isn't what it used to be since multiple websites could be #1 depending on the receiving computer.

Marty Note
Couple of important things to remember when looking at this infographic:

`1. Since the Google float* several websites can be presented as #1 depending on the RECEIVING IP.

2.Only way to know true absolute reference in SEO is use a tool like Mike's Keyword Checker (free) or SEOmoz (paid).

3. Match Mike's or SEOmoz with your Google Analytics to see the VALUE of being #1 (how much traffic your website received).

All of that said, I still fire Mike's at critical keywords to see where we stand. It is helpful to be able to trend especially not that "Not Providing" is climbing past 50% (Not Provided in GA is the growing group of people that visit your website signed into Google).

* Google Float - Google's index now "floats" based on the receiving device. You and I can type the same search at the same time and receive different results. This infographic, while helpful, speaks as if we exist in the old static Search Engine Result Pages days.

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Top SEO Listings Yes, No & Maybe Because ...
The key to knowing IF a top listing matters and if you have one is NOT looking at the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) with your computer logged in since you will see SERPS manipulated to look like what Google thinks you want to see.

At the very LEAST log out. Logging out helps some, but your IP still has a shadow, so if you want to know the truth use a tool to know your position and then check your analytics to know how many times you were shown and how many searchers came to your website as a result of that key.

SO, Yes top listings matter. No they don't matter as much as they used too. Maybe they matter, but it depends on the term.
