How to Sell Online Without A Huge Following

How to Sell Online Without A Huge Following | BI Revolution | Scoop.it
Everything you need to know before you can start to sell digital products online even without a large following.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Selling Stuff Online
This Jurij Burchenya post includes excellent tips and demonstrates one very cool content marketing idea. We love the big green "click this button to get a list" riff in this post.

Your content needs to appeal to readers and scanners. Jurij's big green button will encourage scanners to quickly get and use the essence of his article. Well done.

In addition to Jurij's tips we would add:

* Magazine Your Content - create expectations about what will happen each week, month or quarter and then exceed those.
* Create stores on scaled sites like Amazon, eBay and Etsy.
* Use PPC to teach you how to form offers and what content is gold.
* Gamify your content (see our Haiku Deck on the topic here: https://shar.es/1vgyKm ) with contests and games.

Do any two of those ideas plus the ditch digging Jurij's post describes and you will build a following, sell things and have fun. How do I know? I'm a former Director of Ecommerce who managed teams who made more than $30M online during my tenure :). Marty

New Experian Deal Seeking Study Says Stop Never Ending Sales - via @ScentTrail

New Experian Deal Seeking Study Says Stop Never Ending Sales - via @ScentTrail | BI Revolution | Scoop.it

Thank You Experian! Experian’s new Deal Seekers Report says what every Internet marketer sensed – refusing to segment customers online is goofystupid. Why would any online retailer treat all customers the same?

2014 will be the year segments and personas are a MUST and that includes shouting DEAL, SALE and 50% Off 50% Off all the time. Experian's new study shows such behavior is beyond stupid since it actively turns off 40% of your website's visitors.

Are deals important? Yes for 18% of your visitors (Deal-Seeking Influentials), so figure out programs to support your "influentials" so they can do the heavy lifting for you and you don't sound like a fool to everyone else (lol).

Lean Content Movement
Guillaume, Marc and Alley are championing a new movement I believe in. The "Lean Content" movement is about creating rich visual marketing and getting your point across faster and with less work by your audience.

My friend @MarkTraphagen just used one of his favorite tools, Hiaku Deck, to demonstrate this with my 5 New Ecommerce Lessons (http://scenttrail.blogspot.com/2013/06/5-new-ecommerce-lessons.html ) post.

I loved the example so much I embedded it on top of the post. Haiku Deck is a great tool and Mark is an amazing teacher.

COOL

Don't be turned off because this data is for the UK. The UK is a bell weather for USA because their penetration of ecommerce is higher (16% of total retail) probably because their gas is much more expensive (is one thought).

Drive Better Ecommerce Conversion With Big Data Thanks TO Granify

Drive Better Ecommerce Conversion With Big Data Thanks TO Granify | BI Revolution | Scoop.it
Granify uses big data & machine learning w/ artificial intelligence for ecommerce stores when customers are leaving and sends a message to keep them.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Cool way to see inside your ecommerce website's metrics and find keys to convert better. Finding LEAKS and putting out fires these days isn't easy. If this app has half the Big Data strength they say the tool could help increase conversions, lower acquisition costs and plug leaks.

All websites leak. I'm skeptical about the claim to fill 95% of the leaks, but who cares. When I was a Director of Ecommerce tiny improvements in things like cart abandonment could have made a huge different.

A half a point improvement in cart abandonment would have been worth a million bucks to my old site. You don't have to create sweeping improvements to make much ore money and that is why every ecommerce website should be a testing culture constantly trying to "beat control".

Sounds like Granify can help with all of the testing, analysis and constant iteration of an ecommerce website.
