Big Data Means Nothing If It Isn’t Smart

Big Data Means Nothing If It Isn’t Smart | Business Industry | Scoop.it
Big Data is worthless unless it is actionable. Worse yet, even if it is actionable, it is still worthless if it isn’t timely. What you need is Smart Data.

Barry Magee's curator insight, March 4, 7:28 AM

We've addressed this issue of timeliness within IBM Inside Sales analytics programme using seller ALERTS. Normally, a rep would have to log-in to our BI tool to seek out the 'data-driven' insight the desire.  We've instead created a process where an algorithm detects any new Client activity and creates a weekly ALERT which is sent via email to sellers INBOX.  Seller the goes to log-in to BI tool BAU and take appropriate action to follow up.  This CLOSED LOOP system means  you're no longer dependent on end-users pro-actively going in to your BAO system to seek out 'insight' - its brought right to their front door and they then follow up themselves.  There's as much to the PROCESS of delivering value through data - its not just about the data in isolation - CONTEXT is everything.

Emeric Nectoux's curator insight, March 19, 2:48 PM

Now, after 2 years of noise, I feel that we start to get over the "Big Data" buzz and that people get more mature in their thinking about it. Then, the true questions starts to pop-up: Why using it? what is/are our goals? What (new / enhanced) usages do we foresee that could be supported by Big Data?

This article is pointing at some of these questions and start to answer to some others...
