5 Leadership Biases to Avoid

5 Leadership Biases to Avoid | Business Improvement | Scoop.it
Daniel Watson's insight:

Every leader has their personal biases, and business owners need to be aware that certain biases can impact negatively on their businesses, and strive to avoid letting these biases affect their decision making.

Whilst there is a natural conflict between the aims of a business seeking to maximise profit and it's customers who seek to acquire products or services at the least cost possible, businesses who review their biases as they affect customers stand to do better than those whose don't.

This excellent article, identifies five leadership biases to be avoided by  business owners, and it suggests two things to do to ensure these biases do not effect their decision making.

(From the article): Don’t talk yourself and your team into continuing a project if it’s not working. Stick to the facts and take action on them, even if that action is simply to move on.

Getting an outside perspective is often the most difficult. Your best friend who reviews your new mobile site is a good sounding board, but she’s biased by believing in you. Your agency can certainly provide insights into what’s wrong with your marketing, but they also want you to sign that new contract. There’s that conflict of interest again.

The best outside perspectives come from outside.
