10 Amazing Social Media Statistics [INFOGRAPHIC]

10 Amazing Social Media Statistics [INFOGRAPHIC] | Business for small businesses | Scoop.it
Did you know that Twitter is grabbing more new registrations than Facebook, with more than half of its entire userbase compromised of people who have signed up in the last year, compared to just 19 percent for Mark Zuckerberg’s baby?

What if I said that almost a quarter (23 percent) of Facebook users check their account five or more times each day, Twitter users are 33 percent more likely to be Democrats or – sorry Foursquare – that 74 percent of Americans are unfamiliar with the concept of ‘checking in’.

These, and several other amazing social media statistics, can be found in the infographic on social media statistics...

Content Marketing: The Challenge To Stay Relevant | Social Media Today

Content Marketing: The Challenge To Stay Relevant | Social Media Today | Business for small businesses | Scoop.it
Image Content they say is ‘king’. Agreed!

People scour the internet for information, entertainment, deals, news; the list just goes on. This is the reason why most businesses in the world, if not all, now integrate this strategy into their marketing mix; to keep their potential and existing customers informed, to stay in touch and communicate their value. But little do we realize that not all of us may have the requisite talent and skill to do editorial work. What we of course know are the very businesses we are in. But, what if communication isn’t one of them?

Hire outside talent!

Well, that may be the most prudent decision to make. But unless the entrep himself believes it should figure in his priority list, it may just be an added cost in his expense sheet.

Here are 5 tips any serious business person must take to stay relevant:...............

90 Percent of Small Business Use Social Media [infograhic]

90 Percent of Small Business Use Social Media [infograhic] | Business for small businesses | Scoop.it
A survey of 600 small business owners across the United States indicates that 90% are actively engaged in social networking sites and 74% perceive social networking as valuable — if not more valuable — than networking in-person.

When 42% of owners say that 25% of new customers discovered them through sites such as Facebook and Foursquare, it is crucial that your business is online and social.

But the news is not all merry, as 58% of surveyed owners said they struggle with promoting their Facebook pages — if they have a page at all.

The takeaway is clear. You need to be where your customers are. Forget what your competitors are doing, as their customers are different from your customers. You also need to integrate internet communications into your normal routine of business networking.

Google partners with Women 2.0 to support female entrepreneurs around the world

Google partners with Women 2.0 to support female entrepreneurs around the world | Business for small businesses | Scoop.it
Spotlighting women in tech has become such a pervasive theme in the media, but we rarely hear about female business leaders in emerging nations.

In an effort to ignite female entrepreneurship on a global level, Google has announced a partnership with Women 2.0, a San Francisco-based organization dedicated to supporting female founders

In San Francisco, where Women 2.0 hosts regular events, a typical ‘Founder Friday’ is attended by 350 people. Shaherose Charania, CEO and co-founder of the organization, said events like these are inspiring women to form communities and start companies. “Female founders are a driving force for the creation and usage of technologies that generate jobs,” she explained.

Mary Grove, Head of Entrepreneurship Outreach at Google said in a statement, “We’re looking forward to hosting these important gatherings in Google offices around the world and working together to help female entrepreneurs turn their ideas into innovative, sustainable businesses.”

I'm looking forward to an event in Greece!!

Why Storytelling Will Keep Readers Hooked On Your Blog

Why Storytelling Will Keep Readers Hooked On Your Blog | Business for small businesses | Scoop.it

Storytelling, for some, can be the secret sauce to luring in and keeping readers on your blog.

And if you think about it, it makes sense. Blogging is about forming a connection with readers, and storytelling is a way of honing in on this connection. It’s important to give your readers something — or someone — to care about. Furthermore, the narrative form is relatable to any reader, so here’s why storytelling works for enticing (and keeping) an audience:

Infographic: The Astounding Power Of Pinterest

Infographic: The Astounding Power Of Pinterest | Business for small businesses | Scoop.it
In our upcoming October design issue, one of the many fascinating feature stories we’ve lined up is a lengthy profile of Pinterest and its elusive CEO, Ben Silbermann.

That story goes live later this week, but until then, here's an infographic about Pinterest, created by Fast Company's staff and designed by our own Ted Keller.

In this profusion of figures, you find out a few, key things about the image-sharing service. For one, it’s dominated by women. Second, something about its layout and culture stokes an enormous buying impulse. And third, major brands are getting in on the act. It’s not a stretch to say that soon, at least on retail sites, a Pinterest button might become as ubiquitous as a Facebook Like. Check out the infographic, or tour the major findings in the accompanying slide show...

EEC proposal on how to boost jobs in the creative sector in Europe. How about less words more action!!! | Business for small businesses | Scoop.it

This PDF looks like very interesting reading for anyone in the creative sector and I'm certainly going to study it closely...after a quick skim I like what I read ...but actions always speak louder than words ... dear chaps!!!

Please pass it on and let your opinion be known !

A LARGELY UNTAPPED RESOURCE FOR THE EU 2020 STRATEGY
At the heart of our social fabric, culture shapes our identities, aspirations and relations to others and the world. It also shapes the places and landscapes where we live, the lifestyles we develop. Heritage, visual and performing arts, cinema, music, publishing, fashion or design manifest themselves strongly in daily life but the contribution that cultural and creative sectors1 can bring to social and economic development in the EU is still not fully recognised. Furthermore, major challenges are brought about by globalisation and the digital shift but the necessary adaptations are yet to be promoted to allow these sectors to realise their full potential and Europe's long-standing excellence to be better valorised as a comparative advantage on the world scene. This Communication proposes a strategy to exploit further the potential of these sectors in the EU to contribute to growth and jobs.
                                                High growth sectors
The economic performance of the cultural and creative sectors is recognised: in the EU they
account for 3.3% of GDP and employ 6.7 million people (3 % of total employment)2.
Figures are also important if one considers the fashion3 and high-end4 industries, which rely
on a strong cultural and creative input. They account for 3% of the EU GDP each and employ
respectively 5 and 1 million people, with employment in the high-end industries expected to
reach 2 million by 20205.  Between 2008 and 2011, employment in the cultural and creative sectors proved more resilient than in the EU economy as a whole6 with growth rates varying however between subsectors.

This tendency is all the more interesting because some sectors have a higher percentage of youth employment than the rest of the economy.

The PDF cannot be "scoop.it-ed" for whatever reason but it can be downloaded from this link:

Google authorship is the process where by Google will assign authorship and rand to your content in Google's index. Your image will appear next to your content when it shows up in Google's search results page. In theory this will make your article stand out in the search results and people will tend to click on your link instead of the other links that show up on the search results page.

“Stories are such a powerful driver of emotional value that their effect on any given object’s subjective value can actually be measured objectively,” assert Joshua Glenn and Rob Walker on their website Significantobjects.com. The entire site is home to an experiment that sets out to prove it.

“Pay it Forward Day” is coming April 25, 2013. The phrase has an interesting history and was tearfully illustrated in the 2000 movie of the same name. Our culture values promoting others, and social media is a great example of that.

Instead of picking a certain day of the week (#FollowFriday), we should have a regular habit of promoting our Twitter followers. Adding value to our followers is the best way to create not just a following, but a loyal following. Here are three un-cheesy ways to promote your Twitter community.

Πέντε στρατηγικές για να αυξήσετε την ικανότητα συγκέντρωσης στην εργασία

Πέντε στρατηγικές για να αυξήσετε την ικανότητα συγκέντρωσης στην εργασία | Business for small businesses | Scoop.it

We can only try!!!

Starting a business? James Roumeliotis can help you.

In his 30 years as an entrepreneur, the Greek Canadian author of Entrepreneurial Essentials: Unconventional Business Wisdom and Bold Tactics has learned that leadership discipline is the key to success even though there are never any guarantees.

His book, which was launched in Canada last month, is all about implementing business strategies in the marketplace, including approaches that every successful entrepreneur should know.

“In essence, it offers details on how to take the bull by the horns, so to speak, and achieve timely results minus the nonsense,” Roumeliotis, whose business background includes consulting in Canada and a luxury yacht charter company in Greece, said in a press release. “I very much enjoy offering both solicited and unsolicited advice, along with a dose of motivation, particularly to those who genuinely care to help themselves. This time I am delighted to give back to business professionals who are open to seeing things from a fresh and different perspective.”

9 Life Lessons for Every Entrepreneur

9 Life Lessons for Every Entrepreneur | Business for small businesses | Scoop.it
Here's a set of simple rules to live and work by--from a very unexpected source.

Gordon Dean was an American lawyer and prosecutor whose distinguished career was fairly typical for Washington types. He went to work for the Justice Department under President Franklin Roosevelt, and taught in the law schools at Duke University and the University of Southern California. He was appointed one of the original commissioners of the Atomic Energy Commission in 1949 by President Harry Truman, eventually becoming its chairman from 1950 to 1953.

In short, he's hardly the usual suspect to offer entrepreneurs advice in 2012. Stick with me.

When Dean died in a plane crash in 1958, it’s said that among his personal effects was an envelope with nine life lessons scribbled on the back. These lessons aren’t about the law, or atomic energy, or foreign relations. Rather, they represent wisdom that should be shared and used by people everywhere......
