No movement for women at the top in corporate America

No movement for women at the top in corporate America | Business Education | Scoop.it
A new report by Catalyst finds no significant change in the number of women holding corporate board seats and executive officer positions in corporate America.
Christine Ferrell's insight:

From an executive quoted in the article "I have four children, two are girls and they're pretty young," he said. "I am going to do everything in my power to make sure that I helped to build companies in 10 years that will be much, much more receptive to my daughters than the companies that I know exist in 2013."

I am the first person to say, "You can't do everything well -- not all at once," and to admit that being a mother does take a toll on a career.

That said, organizations really must make an effort to diversity, not necessarily for the progression of women in business and society, but for their bottom lines.

Education Integration: How One Company Is Revolutionizing Ed-Tech

Education Integration: How One Company Is Revolutionizing Ed-Tech | Business Education | Scoop.it
In fact, many students who complete online degree programs using 2U often enthusiastically fly out for the in-person graduation ceremonies at their own expense.
Christine Ferrell's insight:

This is a great article for any university considering -- or even actively delivering -- online education.  No school or provider is perfect, but one thing 2U does very well is delivering to the student a seamless, integrated experience.  This enables the student to focus on the education rather than the technology, which should be the enabler rather than the star of the show.

Focusing On Fundamentals After A Rankings Tumble

Focusing On Fundamentals After A Rankings Tumble | Business Education | Scoop.it
The damage to a school's reputation after a rankings collapse can be like a disease, says Dean Hasan Pirkul. It will take awhile to get it out of your system
Christine Ferrell's insight:

When a school falls 21 places in one year, I think one must question the validity of the methodology.  Unfortunately, the typical prospective student who does not educate him or herself on methodology only sees the school's rise or fall with little context.

Academe, Claim Your Political Power

Academe, Claim Your Political Power | Business Education | Scoop.it
Higher education has not only the ability but the responsibility to influence politics.
Christine Ferrell's insight:

How does higher education play the game of politics—what political scientists call the competition over the allocation of values through money or favorable laws? More directly, "Who gets what, when, and how...Any notion that education and politics do not or should not mix betrays ignorance of a simple reality of American life"

Wash U Tops 2013 FT EMBA Ranking

Wash U Tops 2013 FT EMBA Ranking | Business Education | Scoop.it
Kellogg & Hong Kong UST repeats as overall winner
Christine Ferrell's insight:

If you follow the FT rankings year-over-year, you'll notice almost all the top schools are associated in partnerships with schools in emerging economies, most notably in Asia (China) -- including one of this year's biggest "winners," Washington University.  Food for thought from both prospective student and business school perspectives.  Are Asian partners now required to gain a seat at the global rankings table?  And, do students really reap the rewards?
