RedBallon seem to have though of everything... or have they? They already admit to have been caught out by the Amazon outage over Xmas. What about the loss of power which hit the USA East Coast? and the myriad of other Gremlins that they haven't considered, as those are the ones which will cause the damage. As well as all the high tech (which is great and makes a huge difference to BCP and DR) you ALSO need simple paper based plans which can be used when all else fails. In praise of the payphone

In praise of the payphone | Business Continuity Planning | Scoop.it
What you need to mitigate the risks is a solid business continuity planning process that includes your business voice services.
Basil Shall's insight:

This is a great article. It really highlights that there are 3 important components to a good business continuity practice. Firstly, you need to know what to do in a crisis. Then you need to know what to do if your critical business processes are disrupted. And finally, you need to be able to assess the risks of things going wrong, and take remedial action. If your Business Continuity Management System does not provide all 3 elements, then you are leaving your company open to disruption. Clockwork Continuity Planning has modules which cover all 3 components, with a strong focus on risk reduction. If you are looking for a good BCMS then go to www.siskintechnology.com

The Need For A Crisis Management Plan Has Never Been Greater | Articles | Manufacturing.net | Business Continuity Planning | Scoop.it
Despite those regulations, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that each year, one in six Americans (or 48 million people) gets sick, 128,000 are hospitalized and 3,000 die of foodborne diseases.
Basil Shall's insight:

Gary makes some great points in this article. The one thing he fails to recognise, though, is that Crisis management is only one part of an overall Business Continuity Plan, and that crisis itself might result in a disruption to business-as-usual which is where the Business Continuity element becomes crucial. Checkout the Siskin website for details of our comprehensive Business Continuity Management System, called Clockwork Continuity Planning.
