Content discovery on mobile devices is a particular challenge. How do you use the limited real estate to best effect?

Infographics are fast becoming the way to share details and analytics that move way beyond the standard pie charts used by many businesses in terms of "telling the story".

Here's another good example that highlights the importance of social media for content creators and how the smartphone platforms must be considered when creating content. It's not just a smartphone anymore, it's become the canvas!

How the bubble of Content Creation increases the value of Content Curation

How the bubble of Content Creation increases the value of Content Curation | Business Collaboration | Scoop.it

"My 2013 prediction warned of the continued fall in the value of online content which would lead to the production of ever more content as media companies tried to maintain ad revenues.

You can think of it as a towering tsunami of content, or as a massive bubble of content inflation.

Just as inflation devalues currencies, content inflation is devaluing content."

I think I do but I'm not sure of the connexion you make with content inflation/dilution?
Tagmotion's comment, March 3, 2013 10:59 PM
If we look at content inflation through the lens of making money, it's clear that in terms of monetization through advertising, the internet is the first medium in history where ad inventory grows exponentially every year. Broadcasters are only making real money from iconic TV programs that attract big audiences on the web, for which advertisers will pay a premium to reach. Curating iconic programs - so that relevant segments show up as search results - turns content inflation on its head. Now you have content that's tagged, curated & discoverable at a granular level. And that specificity translates to more highly-targeted advertising which, of course, commands a premium.

Good point here by Nathaniel Mott on PandoDaily. But as he writes, Facebook remains edited by an algorithm that has to make some trade-offs between revenue generation and relevancy. Isn't that a fundamental flaw?

This is great!
Dan Aldridge's curator insight, April 3, 2013 11:20 AM

Good question. With the decline of local print newspapers, could Facebook News Feed take their place? National newspapers have already moved online but there's a void for "small town" news.

There's quite a long review and brief tutorial of Roon here: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/roon-is-a-slick-easy-to-use-blogging-platform-you-may-want-to-try/ I particularly like the comment in the summary "Sometimes we get caught up in complex blogging platforms, plugins and more. Roon takes all of that away and ensures that you focus on what matters the most – your words." A rich feature set isn't always an advantage. Roon certainly isn't a competitor to WordPress, but it does make it easy to just get down to writing. For students that can be quite an advantage.
Tracee Orman's curator insight, August 4, 2013 9:14 AM

I just tried Roon out and made a post (on my Mac, by the way). I wanted to try it to see if it was something to share with students. It was pretty easy, though figuring out how to change the title of the post from "Untitled" was frustrating (I assumed the "Header" was the title...not so. You just click on it after you save and can change it in the sidebar.).

I'm not sure what the point of giving your blog a title was when it posts as your user name and never shows your blog title. My advice: use your blog title as your user name.

Not sure if I will use this with my students, but it is a simple and easy format. And free. Here's my simplistic post: http://mrsorman.roon.io/untitled

Marty Smith puts lean content into perspective with this great explanation:

The lean content movement is is about writing less but saying more, using curation, fast feedback loops and tools such as Scoop.it to live up to the promise of “less is more”.

Keeping it simple with less content and higher effectiveness is the way to win and maintain the highest possible attention level from your audience.

Thanks guys. Not just anyone can pull off the power marketing necessary to find and support a movement. You can and I think you've found a powerful future trend. Thanks for a great and inspiring radio talk. Marty
