The 4Ps is a concept originally coined in the 1960s by E.J. McCarthy. In short, if you have the right Product, in the right Place, at the right Price, supported by the right Promotion, you will likely have the right marketing mix in place to be successful. It’s an idea that is still taught in many marketing classes and continues to have traction in certain marketing circles. However, in the Age of Now this model seems out of touch with the expectations of empowered consumers. In turn, we are seeing the traditional 4Ps give way to a new set: Purpose, Passion, Participation, and Profit...

Very interesting (and highly relevant to the helping professions such as coaching...) move from the original 4Ps of marketing (the right Product, in the right Place, at the right Price, supported by the right Promotion) to the new 4Ps:

Purpose (what your business stands for),

Passion (all about leveraging the power of your people to build your brand, see Empowerment...), 

Participation (companies are looking for partners with the same values whom they can work with to make a difference and further their reach)

Profit (self-explanatory...)

 

Now, this is not a gobbledygook, these are real elements and here also appears the unavoidable need for a passionate, involved, engaged, aligned and empowered staff... do you understand the importance of this? It is a free advertisement for the helping professions, guys...

I like this article... as a prospect, I hate being handled as a fish and am not bad to spot the try even in more sophisticated cases as the one mentioned... as an offerer of services my problem is rather on the other side... but anyhow it's interesting...

I love it when an article promotes people into dialogue, it shows the depth of feeling the article has prompted. For me authenticity is key in all communication and Nick thank you for writing and sharing this .

Most CEOs are not inspiring. After years of working with leaders in business, it's hard to come to any other conclusion.

 

The 5 mistakes listed here are right on -- I experience them all the time when working with my coaching clients.

 

Number 4 is -- CEOs don't tell stories. That's for sure.

Number 5 is -- CEO's reading speeches instead of talking authentically with their audiences.

Number 3 is -- they are too stiff (that comes from not telling stories or not knowing how to tell stories)

Number 2 is -- they don't write their own material. No one can write your personal stories for you, BTW.

Number 1 is -- CEOs are not conveying a vision. Hey, we want to be inspired!

 

Well, for sure many business people of all types suffer from the same mistakes. So what to do? Find the stories you are passionate about telling, learn to tell them well and authentically, leave the notes at home, and please -- don't practice in front of a mirror! That's the kiss of death.
