For #2, being mindful and understanding the implications of the "ripple effect" is perhaps more accurate. Your core team needs to understand change impact at a 2nd and even 3rd degree level in order to be successful.

Can Creativity Be Learned?

Can Creativity Be Learned? | Business change | Scoop.it

Prevailing theories on creativity focus on methodology, or amount of practice. But two new studies suggest artistic talent may be more hard-wired than we thought.

Interesting analysis, but for most organisations creativity/innovation  is a process and anyone can play if they know their role!

The first study, published in a recent issue of Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience, found that highly creative individuals have more activity in the part of the brain containing the ability to make original associations, to blend information from various scenarios and experiences (known as “conceptual integration”), and to understand complex metaphors and comparisons.

The second studypublished in the June 2014 edition of Creativity Research Journal, found that people who have brains that process information faster can also make more diverse connections and original associations, a hallmark of creativity. Because there’s not an obviously confounding relationship between information processing speed and creativity.

Designing change can be following the whorl of a shell more than the steps of a pyramid. In practical terms this simply means that a few people begin designing an approximation of the organizational changes desired, with more people joining the design process in waves as the spiral expands.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and Project Management

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and Project Management | Business change | Scoop.it

I’m an ENTP — what are you?

If you’re familiar with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality assessment, you know exactly what I mean, and you’re likely to respond with “I’m an INFJ” or one of the 14 other MBTI types. When you do, we each have shorthand for how the other prefers to think about the world.

What is the Myers-Briggs?

The MBTI is a psychometric assessment that was first published in 1962, based on work that Isabel Briggs Myers and her mother, Katharine Cook Briggs, started as far back as the 1940s. These two psychologists worked from the typological theories of Carl Jung to develop four dichotomies with which they tried to capture our psychological preferences:

  • Energy source: Extraversion (E) versus Introversion (I)
  • Absorbing information: Sensing (S) versus Intuition (N)
  • Decision making: Thinking (T) versus Feeling (F)
  • Orientation to the outside world: Judging (J) versus Perception (P)

Observation Skills May be Key Ingredient to Creativity | Business change | Scoop.it

The benefits of mindfulness, or being fully conscious and aware of one’s actions and surroundings, have been well documented by psychological scientists. Advantages include decreased risk of burnout at work, improved mental health, and smarter decision-making, according to recent studies. Now, researchers are turning their attention to a potential new connection: mindfulness and creativity.

I remember back in the 1990's when I became a project manager. I especially remember my first project management course, in 1991, where the instructor dramatically announced that more than 50% of projects fail.

Emotional and rational case for organizational change

Emotional and rational case for organizational change | Business change | Scoop.it
Employees’ emotions are where the momentum for real transformation lies

Many leaders excel at building the rational case for change, but they are less adept in appealing to people’s emotional core. Yet the employees’ emotions are where the momentum for real transformation ultimately lies.

Change management communications need to be targeted to each segment of the workforce, and delivered in a two-way fashion that allows people to make sense of the change subjectively.

Change is really a people process, and people being creatures of habit are typically resistantto adopting new mind-sets, practices, and behaviors.

David Hain's insight:

People change with their hearts - business cases only win minds!

Why Business Strategy is Changing

Why Business Strategy is Changing | Business change | Scoop.it

A shift in strategic thinking is underway as boards come to realise that they must respond faster to the changes shaping the global marketplace. The old notion of a set five-year plan has been transformed by the use of more emergent strategies, where assumptions about the future are tested more frequently and, if a new direction is needed, the business is fluid enough to be able to adapt quickly.

#CultureCode: Designing a Culture of Innovation | Business change | Scoop.it

IDEO knows a thing or two about building businesses: The renowned design firm specializes in designing organizations, products and experiences that will revolutionize the way things work, and has helped revamp companies ranging from Kraft Foods to the National Health Services. So how did the international agency go about creating an innovative workplace of its own?

Building and developing a creative culture among employees has been at the core of IDEO from its founding, says Duane Bray, head of global talent. Indeed, IDEO’s culture has been written about by Harvard Business Review, among other publications.

The foundation of its culture rests on seven principle values, which IDEO published in the Culture Code campaign.

IDEO has thrived on 7 values - here they are, plus how to embed them.
