Music and the Brain

Music and the Brain | Using Brain Power in Business | Scoop.it

Music's interconnection with society can be seen throughout history. Every known culture on the earth has music. Music seems to be one of the basic actions of humans. However, early music was not handed down from generation to generation or recorded. Hence, there is no official record of "prehistoric" music. Even so, there is evidence of prehistoric music from the findings of flutes carved from bones.

The influence of music on society can be clearly seen from ...

Susan Gingras Fitzell's insight:

Fabulous information about music and it's impact on the brain. This information is available from other sources, however, this piece pulls it all together quite well.

5 Creative Uses Of PowerPoint Presentations You Haven’t Explored Yet

5 Creative Uses Of PowerPoint Presentations You Haven’t Explored Yet | Using Brain Power in Business | Scoop.it

Death by PowerPoint is a popular term. It’s unfair that PowerPoint gets the stick as there are more than a few presentation tools around. As anyone who has taken the pains to make a memorable PowerPoint presentation will tell you – the secret of the steak is in the sizzle. The sizzle also comes and stops at creativity. If you have creativity by your side, you can use PowerPoint as your canvas.

5 Creative Uses Of PowerPoint Presentations

Karen Ford's curator insight, November 4, 2013 9:53 AM

I think "death by PowerPoint" is used so often because so many users have not "taken the pains to make a memorable..." presentation and the concept of creativity might not have even been considered. Not totally sure what the answer is, but I do believe that if more individuals could have their eyes opened to the potential that PowerPoint has, we might be able to get passed the "death" issue. That means we have to get the great ideas to the teachers and their students... not just telling them, but perhaps showing them...

Why do we exercise? Some people exercise to lose weight. Others exercise to prevent disease. Some exercise just to feel better or to be healthy. One of the reasons we should exercise is for brain
health.
Susan Gingras Fitzell's insight:

Moving With Intention and Learning

Movement with intention anchors learning and prepares the brain for learning (Blaydes 2000). Neuroscience supports the link of exercise, physical activity, and movement to improved academic performance. For your weekend pleasure, here's a SlideShare program and each slide contains a story that is only 33 words. Yes -- only 33 words!

It just goes to show that yes, you can write and tell very short stories. While most of these are non-business examples, I bet you are creative enough to write 33-word stories for your business. Imagine populating those on your website and in emails. Or tweets.

So here's the challenge -- share your 33-word biz stories (DUE SAT. 2/15) in the comment section below. I'll choose the top 3 winners and send each a free copy of my new book with Lori Silverman Business Storytelling For Dummies.

Have fun!

This review was written by Karen Dietz for her curated content on business storytelling at www.scoop.it/t/just-story-it

Karen Dietz's comment, February 10, 11:46 AM
My biz story colleague Madelyn Blair at Pelerei submitted these 33-word stories. Thanks Madelyn! 1. He couldn’t read everything his boss read in 24 hours a day. Then he learned the secret. His boss didn’t read everything. He soared, relaxed, and left guilt behind.
2. The audience was restless after three presentations. Could she connect with this group of suits? Terrified, she began her story. The audience stilled to silence.
3. New players were joining the team. Where would they fit? As they told their stories, gaps suddenly were being filled. Ahh.
4. I didn’t know what to buy until she told me the story of the designer and his vision. I saw it, too. The decision became easy.

What the colors you use say about your business brand

Via SweetShotPhotography
Susan Gingras Fitzell's insight:

Color in branding is all about the customer's experience and perception of color. What is key is looking beyond your personal color preferences and considering how your target market perceives color. That will differ with international audiences. For example, the color red may be perceived differently in the United States as it is in China because of cultural meaning.
