Myanmar hat sich seit seiner Öffnung nach dem Regierungswechsel 2010 zu einer rasant aufstrebenden Tourismusdestination entwickelt. Zwischen 2011 und 2012 stiegen die internationalen Tourismusankünfte um knapp 30 Prozent. Damit kamen zum ersten Mal mehr als eine Millionen Gäste ins Land der goldenen Pagoden.
