The Scars of Bullying (A Personal Story) « Bullying Stories | Bullying | Scoop.it
story by Brian describes in few words what many kids go through with bullying and how we feel due to the effects of bullying. Brian asks at the end “Why Me?”, which has to be the most common question out there. The feeling that somehow as a victim we asked or set ourselves up to be bullied is such a common response and one that continues to hold long-term effects well after the bullying has ended. The self-doubt and feelings of sadness and low self-esteem are continual reminders to victims of bullying.

Bullying Research - New Study Shows Long-Term Effects of Bullying Tied to Empathy | Bullying | Scoop.it
A new study just released by the Kellogg School of Management, shows that victims of bullying often do not get the support, intervention or advocacy they need due directly to the fact that people fail to understand the long-term consequences of social trauma. The article refers to this issue as an “empathy gap”, showing that many people still believe that the severity of long-term emotional injury that bullying causes is underestimated.

New Study Shows Long-Term Effects of Bullying Tied to Empathy « Bullying Stories | Bullying | Scoop.it
The “empathy gap” theory is explained as that the researchers found that people have difficulty understanding the severity that a victim suffers unless they themselves experience it. This is often true for victims I talk to as well who have so many people ask them why they just don’t get over what happened to them and move on. The article goes on to explain how the experiment was conducted.

The effects on your child | parentlineplus | parents - BullyingUK Registered Charity 1120107 | Bullying | Scoop.it
The impact of bullying on disabled children may be different to the impact of bullying on other children. This is because their condition may be reinforced or worsened by the bullying. For example a child with a social communication disorder may already be reluctant to mix in social situations but because of bullying they’ve experienced they withdraw further. This may mean they lose the opportunity to develop their social skills and therefore feel less confident in social situations which then exacerbates the problem.
