Rachel Solomon's insight:

This article talks about how violence in our schools has become an increasing problem over the past decades. Peer mediation is "a form of dispute resolution in which students' peers simply help them communicate to fix their own problems," says the article. I think peer mediation is a really great idea to stop bullying. Kids are sick and tired of listening to their parents, teachers, guidance counselors, etc. I think it is much more effective to have someone your own age help you work out a disagreement. I also feel that kids care much more about how their peers view them rather than how adults view them, so I think peer mediation could be a very effective tool is helping with bullying issues.

Bullied Teen's Video Passes 17M Views

Rachel Solomon's insight:

I think this article and video are really important because it shows just how much bullying/cyber-bullying can affect a teenager. This girl became so depressed and upset that she took her own life, and her tragic death is just another reminder of how dangerous bullying can be. This should be shared with teens everywhere so maybe next time someone thinks about saying or doing something hurtful to someone, they'll think twice.

Bullying, Anti-bullying Legislation, and School Safety

Bullying, anti-bullying legislation, school safety...

Rachel Solomon's insight:
I really like this article because it talks about how they believe that "bullying should be, and typically already is addressed in school student behavior codes." I completely agree with this, and I know that it was addressed in my high school's code of conduct. Bullying is such a hot topic right now, especially with all of the new technology and cyber-bullying, and it definitely needs to be addressed because it really affects all of the students inside and outside of the classroom.

In this article they discuss the research being done on bullying and how it's been blown out of proportion. They back research that says narrowing down on the hotspots will reduce the amount of bullying. They also give information on legisaltion and school safety procedures.

The app, Back Off Bully, allows bystanders to let School Administrators know who the bully/bullies were, where the incident took place and who was victimized. Too often, I hear young people worry that if they stand up to a ...

Rachel Solomon's insight:

I think this article is really interesting. It shows that there is a new app that alows students to anonymously report bullying to school administrators. I think this is great, and I would think that students would be way more likely to report things if it could be done anonymously. No one wants to be a tattletale, so I think this app is a great invention, and could really be a helpful tool to prevent and stop bullying.

Text-message bullying becoming more common

Text-message bullying becoming more common | Bullying Inside and Outside of the Classroom | Scoop.it
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - A growing number of U.S.

Rachel Solomon's insight:

I think this article is very relevant right now. With the increasing technology, cyber-bullying is becoming even more prevalent inside and outside of our classrooms. Many students claim to be harassed via text messages or social media, and it is important for teachers to be aware of this, and maybe talk about and come up with ways to help prevent it.

In this article it said that 24% of high school and middle school students had been bullied through text message. This article is really up to date because kids don't bully as much face-to-face anymore.
