The Write Conversation : Tips to Finding Relevant Twitter Hashtags

The Write Conversation : Tips to Finding Relevant Twitter Hashtags | building community through social media | Scoop.it

If you’re tweeting about a new subject, be sure to check the hashtags and pick ones that will correctly target your audience.

There are four sites that can be recommended.

1) Hashtags.org. This site gives a list of trending hashtags, a graph and a search box to type in potential hashtags. After typing in a hashtag, it lists current tweets containing that hashtag. 2) Trendistic.IndexTank.com. It also gives you a graph, along with a search box. But it’s graph allows you to check the trends for the past 180 days. 3) WhatTheTrend.com. Like the others, What the Trend has current trends, a graph and a search box. I included it because it also explains why a particular hashtag is trending. 4) Trendsmap.com - this site has a map that tells you what is trending where. This is particularly helpful if you’re targeting a specific area. by Edie Melson

Want To SEE Millennial Tech Future? Watch This @iSocialFanz Video #cloudtalk

More Than What is Said
The importance of this week's #cloudtalk Hangout On Air is what Brian does with Periscope, Meerkat and Youtube. Brian was simultaneously creating conversations using "real time video" in three channels.

The power of real time video CAN'T BE OVERSTATED. I didn't understand Periscope until Mark Traphagen went for a walk in Duke Garden. As Mark walk, shooting a real time video, he SAW me join and could discuss what he was seeing / doing.

WOW, think of real time videos as your way to have a conversation. Real time video breaks down the time delay AND you are left with a product, if you record your sessions, that will help others with similar questions later.

The immediacy is too cool to be denies. We've been wrestling with how to break down the silos between commerce and content. Brian's demonstration has our wheels turning.

@Brian Fanzois a #mustfollow curator too btw :). M

To Create Real Change, Leadership Is More Important Than Authority

To Create Real Change, Leadership Is More Important Than Authority | building community through social media | Scoop.it

Aspiring young executives dream of climbing the ladder in order to gain more authority.  Then they can make things happen and create the change that they believe in.  Senior executives, on the other hand, are often frustrated by how little power they actually have.

The problem is that while authority can compel action it does little to inspire belief.  Only leadership can do that. It’s not enough to get people to do what you want, they have to also want what you want or any change is bound to be short lived.

That’s why change management efforts commonly fail.  All too often, they are designed to carry out initiatives that come from the top.  When you get right down to it, that’s really the just same thing as telling people to do what you want, albeit in slightly more artful way.  To make change really happen, it doesn’t need to be managed, but empowered.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, June 1, 2014 4:59 PM

There is a difference between authoritarian and authority. Authority is about authoring authority in the words and actions. It is artful; whereas authoritarian is about management and technique which are imposed. We give people something which is empowers them rather than engaging them in their work, their calling.

donhornsby's curator insight, June 2, 2014 8:03 AM

(From the article): Control is an illusion and always has been an illusion.  It is a Hobbesian paradox that we cannot enforce change unless change has already occurred.  The lunatics always run the asylum, the best we can do as leaders is empower them to run it right.

And that’s why change always requires leadership rather than authority.  Respectable people always prefer incumbency to disruption.  Only misfits are threatened by the status quo.  So if you want to create real change, it is not power and influence that you need, but those who seek to overthrow it.

You can use social/digital to shake hands, but until you can look someone in the eye there will always be a gap in the relationship. Not everyone is looking to take it to the next level, but for those that are, there is tremendous upside both personally and for your brand.

How to Increase Engagement in Your Online Community

How to Increase Engagement in Your Online Community | building community through social media | Scoop.it

Connection is important in a community. However, for it to exist, you must first generate trust. Trust arises from your community’s engagement. Unless you give rise to such engagement on the basis of the credibility you earn with what you do and what you say, then there is no community, you have nothing.

Engagement is everything
