Never heard of it - must be worth sharing :)

Robin Good's insight:Introducing content curation to someone who doesn't know anything about it is not always an easy task. There are so many different articles, opinions, definitions and recommendations about content curation that it is quite difficult for someone just getting familiar with the topic, to easily find out where to start and what to trust. To help out anyone needing to support the explanation of content curation to others, here are five comprehensive resource collections I have put together over the course of the last year. 1) Content Curation - Definitions a collection of the best and most useful definitions of what content curation is http://bundlr.com/b/content-curation-definition 2) Content Curation - What is it? Video Intros 30+ short video clips that introduce the need, practice and purpose of content curation http://huzzaz.com/collection/content-curation-what-is-it 3) Content Curation Visualized 110+ infographics, visuals, illustrations and diagrams explaining what content curation is www.pinterest.com/robingood/content-curation-visualized/ 4) Content Curation Tools Directory - Tools Directory 100+ of the best content curation tools organized in a directory for immediate access http://contentcuration.zeef.com/ 5) Content Curation Tools Supermap - Tools Collection 600+ content curation, discovery, filtering and publishing tools organized by categories for doing content curation http://bit.ly/ContentCurationToolsSupermap All free to use and share.

Scott Sigler.com saved me about 75% on a new domain at GoDaddy.com! | Building a Web Presence | Scoop.it
GoDaddy code sigler295 gets a new domain for $2.95, including dot-com names. Or, GoDaddy coupon go35off5 saves 32% off entire single order of all products.
wanderingsalsero's insight:

I believe in giving credit where credit is due so I want the world to know that I just got a new domain, (www.buildingawebpresence.com) from GoDaddy for a grand total of ONLY $3.13.  It was quick and easy and, needless to say, I'm a 'happy camper'.  I've actually got one or two more to order soon.

It was strange though in one way.  I tried to use JoinHoney.com, which I had used successfully before, but this time it didn't seem to work.  The first time I used it, I was in Manila and it worked fine.

But now I'm in Ras al Khaimah, UAE.... and it didn't seem to work.  It's supposed to automatically give you the discount during the GoDaddy checkout process. I'm actually rather surprised because JoinHoney was recommended to me by a very successful internet marketer. But....whatever.

Thanks Scott Sigler!  I'll have my new website up in a week or so.

Awesometalk is a new free web service which makes it extremely easy to have a one-to-one or multi-party video-conference without the need to install, setup, register or login anything.

You simply head-on to Awesometalk.com and without needing to click anything you are instantly provided with a link that you can share with anyone to meet and videoconference with you.

You share the link and as soon as someone else joins the specified link the videoconference starts automatically. The UI is basically non-existent with the only two things in view being, the video feed of other callers and a button that appears just in-time to end the call.

Supereasy.

Free to use.

LinkedIn can be the best tool for building your brand. If you incorporate these seemingly counterintuitive techniques into your LinkedIn strategy, you will build a stellar profile, be visible to decision makers and be skilled at using LinkedIn as a career-management tool.
wanderingsalsero's insight:

I found this article actually on Scoop.it.  I guess one of the few mildly inconvenient things about SI is that when you see a post served up to you as something you might want to curate, you really have no way of knowing until you read it.

Personally, I prefer not to 'scoop' things unless I really think they're interesting but, on the other hand, I'd be more than happy to give credit to the person who originally scooped it.  But it's not easy to do on Scoop.it.

Anyway....here it is.  Anything about LinkedIn is worth at least reviewing.  This would also be a great article to 'spin'....like, if you've got some kind of blog of your own.

How Klout Is Poised To Clean LinkedIn’s Content Clock - Business 2 Community

How Klout Is Poised To Clean LinkedIn’s Content Clock - Business 2 Community | Building a Web Presence | Scoop.it

Late last week Klout announced its intent to empower its users with the ability to view and share curated content that is custom-tailored according to the social graph of the user and the user’s audience. This is a throwback to early last year when LinkedIn actually did something similar — when its content was still useful. However, since curation is based on an individual user’s social graph and what actually resonates with their audience, this looks to be potentially better.

Klout describes it this way:

“The ‘Create’ tab helps you find great articles and posts worth sharing with your audience. Unlike most apps that suggest content for your personal consumption, Klout intelligently recommends content that will strike a chord with your unique set of friends, fans and followers. Helpful tags highlight fresh content that is starting to trend as well as items that closely match the interests of your audience members and are likely to resonate with them.”

Interesting news.  I've gotten the impression that LI is getting a big case of the 'stuck-ups' with the way they've been treating their customers lately.  I do know that Klout is an easy to use site....even if I never was certain that it had any real benefit.

wanderingsalsero's insight:

I've always believed that it was good karma to give thanks where thanks is due and that certainly applies to Paul Hart and his trusty iMac expert Chris Carruthers. They helped over a major hurdle tonight and undoubtedly saved me a lot of further frustration.

I've recently been using an iMac for most of my work. Even though I don't really like Macs very much, I was using it primarily because of the bigger screen. But....

Today I started to have problems with my Adobe Flash.....as and the Firefox platform that I use it on---- it didn't work! So I'm thinking....'What to do?'

I recalled an outsourcing service I'd used before and had pretty good luck with so I went back there and picked out a listing that somehow just 'felt' kinda safe to me. I sent them and email and, even though they're in Georgia and I"m way over here in the UAE, I heart back from the owner, Paul, in just a few hours.

Anybody who's ever dealt with service issues online knows how tense it can be while you wait and wonder and hope that somebody will get back to you, right? That's how I felt.

Much to my relief, I got a skype call from Paul and we set up a time about an hour in the future where he and his Mac guy, Chris, would get back to me and we'd hook-up online and they'd try to solve my problem.

It was obvious that Chris knew what he was doing....i.e. he knew his way 'around' on a Mac but after about 15-20 (much more time than I had prepaid for, Chris began to suspect that it might be a deeper problem than just a configuration issue.

He did some snooping around on various forums and such, right there in 'real time' and...shur'nuff.... he discovered that lots of other people were having similar issue with Macs and Firefox and Flash.

Long-story-short.... we agreed that I should just use Chrome until Firefox got their act together and fixed their Flash plugin to work on Macs. Point is.....they really treated me nice. No bitching about the mystery or goobly-gook trying to 'mouse-up' the ticket. They did exactly what I wanted them to do....they found the answer to my problem.

It made perfect sense to me so....for now.....I'm going to be a Chrome-boy....for now :-) But I would highly recommend Paul and Chris and Hart's PC Repair for any kind of PC problems. Paul's got a real radio-announcer's voice and he and Chris are very easy to communicate with (i.e. they listen well). And last but not least, they're very economical too.

They tell me they do a lot of virus removals (easy to do remotely if you know what you're doing like they do!), remote support and tech support and, just to prove they're not a 'flash-in-the-pan' they've been in business for over 9 years.

Especially for anybody in the US., as cheap as long distance calls are nowadays, it's nice to know that PC frustration relief is just a phone call away .

What if Everything You Know About Social Media Marketing is Wrong?

What if Everything You Know About Social Media Marketing is Wrong? | Building a Web Presence | Scoop.it

...If you are employed in social media marketing, it is time for a healthy dose of reality followed by some serious soul searching and career planning. Some of you are lucky enough to work in the rare companies that create advocates with great products, service and mission and thus are equipped to leverage social media for marketing gain; most work at companies that have inflated their opportunities in the medium and are floundering with their social media marketing and content strategies.

Here's the way a large number of social media professionals today go about justifying their programs, along with some recent data that may (and should) scare the hell out of you if you work in social media marketing...

Via Jeff Domansky
wanderingsalsero's insight:

All I can say is that I never really did get 'on' this bandwagon in the sense of trying to milk it for money.  I've always thought that most of what I saw/see on FB and Twitter is extremely silly bullshit  Who has time for such stuff is hard for me to image...especially nowadays with the economy in the tank.

I've always thought that any kind of content should have some real value to the reader whether they're your customer or not.  And furthermore that it should be just as much a type of self expression as anything else.

People will make a decision about whether or not they want to 'like' or 'follow' you based on the perception they get of you as a person...or, in the case of companies, by their impression on what the companies really stands for and what they 'do' (and how it benefits people).

6 Ways User-Generated Content Can Double Your ROI | | Building a Web Presence | Scoop.it
Find out how a major healthcare brand used social media and user-generated content to double the return on their social media investment.
wanderingsalsero's insight:

I was thinking about almost exactly the same thing two days ago!  My take on it was/is:  We all know people who would probably be glad to write something (over their own name/brand) on our blog.  I think it would be an obvious win/win/win to encourage that sort of thing.

In my case, I know two or three pastors, 4 dance instructors, two or three dance event promoters, at least one successful guy in internet marketing, one local real-estate guy, and probably several other people I can't think of right now.

What would happen if I sent them an email and just said, "Hey...<Name>, You've been on my contact list for a long time now and I'm pretty sure you know that I have a blog.  I'd be more than happy to have you do a guest-post sometime.  We can discuss the topic but as long as it's 'good' for my readers, I'm cool with whatever you might have in mind.  Please let me know if something like this would interest you.  I'm sure you've got a lot to offer and I suspect that I probably know some people you don't :-)"

I even wonder if somebody could come up with some sort of widget or script that would keep an 'offer' like that 'on the table' on my own web properties?  I would have no way of knowing who sees one of my posts and might be very open-minded to guest blogging on my properties.  So what if they're not a AAA+ brand?  Neither am I.  I think it would be a good way for 'us' to help each other 'along the internet road to fame'.

P.S.  For 'local business' I think it would be a great way to Joint Venture locally.

Learn how to use LinkedIn Showcase Pages to generate leads.

Having more than one buyer persona is a balancing act. If they're very different, you may feel like you're constantly in danger of not giving one enough attention, or confusing your personas with untargeted content. Add the problem of keeping all your content grouped together on one social media page, and you're really lost.

Some brands have found a way to fix this issue on LinkedIn, specifically, by creating something called Showcase Pages. Let's take Gap as an example -- they've got a page for Old Navy, Banana Republic, Gap, and Gap Inc. But those pages aren't all connected or centralized around Gap Inc. Showcase Pages, however, fix this problem....

How To Say “This Is Crap” In Different Cultures

How To Say “This Is Crap” In Different Cultures | Building a Web Presence | Scoop.it

...Managers in different parts of the world are conditioned to give feedback in drastically different ways. The Chinese manager learns never to criticize a colleague openly or in front of others, while the Dutch manager learns always to be honest and to give the message straight. Americans are trained to wrap positive messages around negative ones, while the French are trained to criticize passionately and provide positive feedback sparingly.

One way to begin gauging how a culture handles negative feedback is by listening to the types of words people use. More direct cultures tend to use what linguists call upgraders, words preceding or following negative feedback that make it feel stronger, such as absolutely, totally, or strongly: “This is absolutely inappropriate,” or “This is totally unprofessional.”

By contrast, more indirect cultures use more downgraders, words that soften the criticism, such askind of, sort of, a little, a bit, maybe, and slightly. Another type of downgrader is a deliberate understatement, such as “We are not quite there yet” when you really mean “This is nowhere close to complete.” The British are masters at it.  The “Anglo-Dutch Translation Guide”, which has been circulating in various versions on the Internet, illustrates the miscommunication that can result....
