"MAPP (Media Activism Participatory Politics) case studies will provide in-depth descriptions of exemplary youth organizations and networks that encourage productive forms of participation in the public spheres. Specifically, we are examining the potential connections between participatory culture and civic engagement, with the long-term goal of identifying best practices that may inform future efforts to recruit and mobilize young citizens. These case studies focus on groups that have gained strong youth support online and off and are intended to reflect a range of issues and ideological perspectives. We will conduct in-depth interviews with a significant number of participants who exemplify different roles in the movement or organization. In addition, the cases will also include online and offline observations, more informal interviews, and an analysis of the group's online and organizational infrastructures.
