Glomerulonenephritis-Sign, Symtoms, Overview
This is the term used to describe imflammation of the glomerulus in the nephron of the kidney's. This disease will often appear a few weaks post a strep infection. This infection is far more common in children between the ages of 2 to 12. Quite often someone suffering from glomerulonenephritis with experience fatigue,nausea and vomiting. They will also have shortness of breath,disturbed vision, high blood pressureand swelling in the face, hands, feet, and ankles. In most cases they will also have blood and protein in the urine, causing their urine to be cloudy and red. If someone is suspeccted to having this disorder, doctors will often use urine tests in order to test the urine for protein or red blood cells. Sometimes they may also preform a biopsy, which is basically taking a piece of the kidney, and preforming vaious tests.
Prevention, treatment- It is very difficult to prevent the oncoming of this desease as it is hard to predict upper respiratory deseases. When the syptoms of glomerulonenephritis do begin to show though, doctors will often provide antibiotics. If the nature of the disease is that of fluid overload, diuretics will be used to excreet this extra water. Mainly though, patients are told to get plenty of rest as that will maintain blood flow to the kidneys. They may also need to limit sodium input. The use of diuretics are adjusted acording to the patients body weight.
Interesting fact- The most deadly form of this disease is chronic glomerulonenephritis. This form develops very slow. The symtoms are almost non existant until the point at which the kidney's will fail.
