The Truth about Diversity YOUTUBE - #YouTubeBlack, Minorities & Fake YouTubers, #YoutubeisOverParty #money

In this video I discuss several things: 1. The Pay (How YouTubers get paid, brand deals, sponsorships, etc) 2. The Diversity on YouTube (#YouTubeBlack
Bonnie Sandy's insight:
I have strong views on Fashion as content and how  one takes resonsibility for creative assets. I'm a Black fashion advocate in NY, Which means 80% of the work is getting a solid black sector to. A - to work together, B - deliver value, C- be honest about what and who really makes up "the black fashion and apparel sector and who profits from it"

For the last  couple years I have been exploring ways to  monetize my fashion and otehr creative properties. Teh result is a series on 50 ways to Pimp one's fashion.

I no longer take part in "fashion shows" that charge at the door unless I'm paid as talent.

I was wondering about her concerns that and how 'the black YouTubers" were chosen. so her topic drew me in
1. The Pay (How YouTubers get paid, brand deals, sponsorships, etc) 2. The Diversity on YouTube (#YouTubeBlack, Minorities on YouTube, etc) 3. My Challenges on YouTube 4. #YouTubePartyisOver / demonetization

One of her concerns echos  my "beefs" with social media and those who DEMAND  the "free tutorial and advice", then turn and expect to sell, items tehy made from that knowledge for a couple hundred dollars. It's about value and what we value.

I've been playing with video and fashion since 2006 and Honestly refused the YOUTube channel because of the rules and monetization or lack thereof.  I use youtube as video backup.

It's also the same on Etsy... and some channels do not even have black participants on their platforms. Some of the "Rules" are about FCC regulations and some about "Business" and investors...

I was not impressed by "Numbers of views" without compensation... modern day slavery as far as i was concerned. on the other hand I knew from being at early industry meetings on teh video revolution (I started fashioncamp the fashion tech unconferencein 2009) that few had figured out how to monetize these platform... to date youtube is yet to show a profit.

Then again many care abut fame and those "numbers" are about Personality more than value. i have faith that  things will settle down .. eventually

Clusters, Class, Culture and Unfair Advantages

Clusters, Class, Culture and Unfair Advantages | Brooklyn By Design | Scoop.it

our career trajectories had been flattened by the limited knowledge and expectations of our cluster, class and culture."our career trajectories had been flattened by the limited knowledge and expectations of our cluster, class and culture.Interestingly, none of us believed our possibilities were limited, yet in hindsight our first barrier was that knowledge was local – constrained by our culture and cluster. (Forty years later when the Internet has made knowledge global, we’ve run into the second barrier - just knowing about things is not the great equalizer we expected. We’ve rediscovered that career choices are referential and experiential. Just because you read about it does not mean you know how to apply it to your own life. We still tend to gravitate to careers we’re exposed to in local clusters, and bound by our class and culture.)

FTC Cracks Down on Influencer Posts that are not transparent

Hashtags like #sp and #spon may not be fully understood, especially if they are buried at the bottom of a post, he said. And any disclosure would be better at the beginning. When it comes to video, the FTC calls for disclosure to be said out loud or displayed on screen. It can get even more complicated on Snapchat, where there's not an obvious place to put a hashtag, and the videos are only a few seconds.

#BrownvilleStratupFund $5000 #Pitch #Competition  #Hyperlocal  #Diversity #Neighborhood #startupfund | Deadline October 30th | Pitch November 13

$5000 with a business that has been prepped can go a long way. I intend to support this but there is a reason pitches are held after prep.
The question is
- Do I compete ...  there is one idea that will serve this extremely well. Plus I really love hacks and pitching competitions...
- Do I Prep a group  Local Business development  is what we specialize in ... we're already doing this and have a number of businesses we can work with.
or
- Do I offer official support via NYukCo as an event sponsor... It's time to step up our visibility...
All thre options will answer our "WHY", which makes this a tough  decision.

BTW we're meeting AT Stratosphere Studios Cafe Lounge, 227 Utica Avenue at 6pm today (oct 14th) we go live at 7pm
for part 2 the conversation on Financial support for neighborhood projects -(see part 1 at www.NyukCo.com/findingfunding ;). I'll be adding this to the agenda.

Public Art Private Controversy- The "white washing" of Brand Brooklyn

Public Art Private Controversy- The "white washing" of Brand Brooklyn | Brooklyn By Design | Scoop.it
What goes together better than ice cream, sunshine and neighborhood camaraderie? Ice cream, sunshine, neighborhood camaraderie and public art, that's what. Thanks to Mike Perry -- the illustrator extraordinaire
Bonnie Sandy's insight:

It was not  called Graffiti but public art,and that was  the first  indication that there was an  issue.  The sharp contrast between the  article and the comments- tell a lot about the present  undercurrents -
FROM THE COMMENTS "It's disgraceful that you do the developer's p.r. for them. First, your facts wrong -- Frank Gehry did not oversee the whole project. He was used as a trendy prestige element to sell it to the city's power brokers. Gehry was crass and his designs were ridiculed. He once infamously said he looked forward to building a neighborhood where none existed. This came as news to thousands who lived and worked there. Most are now gone, the victims of misused eminent domain. These trite, happy murals and the artists who ignore the project's destructiveness are very much the new Brooklyn. Displacing people, refusing to provide low-income housing per years of promises, and adding to the Brooklyn brand without providing things Brooklynites clamor for are all business as usual for the Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park project. Shame on you, Katherine Brooks, for being a cog in Forest City's onerous machine."
